Position Title: Part-Time Librarian/Archivist Assistant
Reports To: Director of Library Services
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: 20 hours per week (flexible scheduling within business hours)
Location: Susie McClure Library (American Baptist College), Nashville, TN

Position Summary

The Part-Time Archivist and Library Reference Assistant supports the library’s mission by managing archival collections and providing reference services to students, faculty, staff, and the public. This dual-role position is ideal for a detail-oriented, service-driven professional passionate about preserving historical records and promoting information access.

Key Responsibilities

Archival Services

  • Process, arrange, describe, and preserve archival materials according to professional standards.
  • Maintain finding aids and metadata for digital and physical collections.
  • Assist with digital repository management.
  • Respond to research inquiries related to archival collections.
  • Collaborate on exhibits, outreach, and programming that promote the archives.

Reference and Instruction Services

  • Provide in-person and virtual reference assistance to users.
  • Assist patrons with locating, accessing, and using print and electronic resources.
  • Support students and faculty in developing research strategies and navigating library databases.
  • Provide basic instruction in information literacy as needed.
  • Assist with circulation, shelving, and other daily library operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in history, Archives, Library Science, or related field. (degree must be fulfilled by December 2026).
  • Experience working with archival collections and reference services.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with archival standards such as DACS and metadata schemas like Dublin Core.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office and basic library systems; knowledge of Omeka S, or similar platforms, is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of or experience with historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), religious archives, or community-based collections.
  • Experience with digitization tools and digital preservation practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Master’s degree in history, Archives, Library Science, or related field.

Compensation

This is a part-time position at $18.00 per hour, not eligible for benefits.
