What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Case Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Case Manager, you need a background in social work, counseling, or a related field, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with case management software, documentation systems, and sometimes knowledge of local social services resources is important. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills help build rapport with clients and coordinate effective care. These skills are vital to ensure clients receive appropriate support and services, even in a limited-hours role.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time case managers, and how can they effectively manage their workload?

Part-time case managers often face the challenge of balancing a caseload within limited working hours, which requires strong organizational and prioritization skills. They may need to coordinate care across multiple clients and agencies, ensuring timely communication and documentation. Effective time management, setting clear boundaries with clients, and leveraging digital tools for scheduling and record-keeping can help manage these demands. Building strong relationships with colleagues and supervisors also ensures seamless client coverage and support when not on duty.

What are part time case managers?

Part time case managers are professionals who coordinate and manage support services for clients, typically working fewer hours than a full-time position. They assess client needs, develop care plans, and connect individuals to appropriate resources such as healthcare, housing, or social services. By working part time, they often have flexible schedules and may handle a smaller caseload. These roles are common in healthcare, social work, and nonprofit organizations, and they play a vital role in ensuring clients receive the assistance they need.

Job description

City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital.

With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn’t standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope.

Position Summary:

City of Hope is seeking a dedicated Clinical Nurse to join our Case Management team, specializing in cancer treatment. In this role, you will play a crucial part in coordinating patient care along the continuum, advocating for patients, and ensuring their satisfaction while focusing on cancer care. This opportunity is for full-time, 8-hour shifts (5 shifts per week), and day shifts. Case Managers (full or part-time) are eligible for an additional (up to) $15.37/hr for weekend shift differentials.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Utilize the Case Management process to effectively communicate and coordinate patient care, ensuring a seamless experience for patients receiving cancer treatment.
  • Serve as a patient advocate, actively promoting customer satisfaction by addressing patient concerns and facilitating their needs.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to assess and plan patient care, ensuring timely access to necessary resources and services.
  • Monitor patient progress and identify opportunities for care improvement, working to enhance the overall quality of care delivery.
  • Utilize your BSN degree and clinical expertise to contribute to the overall success of the Case Management department.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN)
  • Current CA RN License
  • Minimum of three (3) years current clinical experience, preferred background in oncology nursing
  • BLS Certification, through the American Heart Association
  • Experience in case management and familiarity with cancer treatment protocols.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on patient advocacy and satisfaction.
