Part-Time: 20 Hours/Weekly

General Summary

Responds to EMS calls and performs a variety of functions related to the care and treatment of patients suffering from urgent and emergent disease and/or injury states in accordance with appropriate rules, regulations, and protocols. according to PA DOH EMS Act and scope of practice.

Qualifications
Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:

  • 1 year In busy 911 system. Required

Licenses:

  • Certified Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Upon Hire Required and
  • Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required and
  • Certified EMS Vehicle Operator Upon Hire Required

Driver's License Statement:

Must possess a valid driver's license in the current state of residence. Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.

Courses and Training:

  • Emergency Vehicle Operator's Course (EVOC); National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700, 800 - Hazardous Materials Awareness. Upon Hire Required

Essential Functions:

  • Responds to EMS calls whether emergency or routine transport, observes safety policies and operates an emergency vehicle with due regard for others.
  • Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members.
  • Prepares patients for scheduled procedures and assists in patient assessment.
  • Prepares, hangs, monitors, and discontinues I.V. fluids.
  • Responds to emergency non-emergency calls as an Advanced Life Support Provider when appropriate, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH) EMS protocols.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor, and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participates in educational programs and in service meetings.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
