Job description

St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, Texas, is hiring a full-time Business Manager. The Parish Business Manager supports the Pastor's administrative responsibilities to the parish, which includes the church and all associated ministries. The Parish Business Manager is a steward of the financial and physical resources of the parish and has fiduciary responsibility for all areas. In collaboration with the Parish Finance Council, and other parish committees/organizations, the Parish Business Manager ensures parish business practices align with the Mission, Vision and Core Values of the parish. Development and implementation of the parish strategic plan is an integral part of this position's responsibility. Daily operations includes leading and guiding the (paid) staff as best I can to fulfill our parish vision. We strive to provide hospitality to each person we encounter daily. We have many impromptu discussions and meetings to help ensure we are all moving forward toward the same goal.  

Ministerial Character:

The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him.  In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community.  In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people.  He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities.  Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

The list below reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the primary functions of the job identified and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the job.

  • As an integral part of the ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Continuous growth in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
  • Responsible for management of the parish's financial resources including records for revenues, expenses, reporting, depositing, and accounting policies and procedures; parish financial reports and records
  • Oversees the preparation of annual operating budget for the parish and presents to the Parish Finance Council and Pastor for approval
  • Provides Human Resources support at the local level in conjunction with the Diocesan Human Resources Office, manages payroll, benefits, and reporting functions; ensures the parish is compliant with all payroll tax and insurance responsibilities
  • Maintains accurate records and files (financial, personnel, construction, contracts, etc.)
  • Maintains a responsible cash flow management system and maximizes cash management resources
  • Oversees counting and deposit of all parish funds
  • Participates in or leads (as appropriate) required meetings (Finance Council, Stewardship, Building Committee, staff meetings)
  • Oversees accounting policies and procedures
  • Initiates all purchases (expenditures) and obtains approval of finance council and pastor as required
  • Monitors and keeps inventory of the materials, supplies, and equipment for the parish and purchase any needed items
  • Maintains computer equipment, security system, network and telephone system; solicits bid proposals from vendors as needed  
  • Manages facilities including custodial work, restorations, renovations; work with related vendors
  • Supervises parish staff and volunteers ensuring compliance with Safe Environment policies of the Diocese of Corpus Christi 
  • Oversees parish calendar 
  • Guides parish ministries as requested (funeral ministry, ACTS retreats, etc.)
  • Oversees safety security of buildings, grounds and keys of the parish
  • Ensures Pastor is informed and consulted on all matters and operations of the Parish
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Mental/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more
  • Ability to maintain composure under duress; maintain emotional control under stress
  • Must maintain confidentiality


 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management or business operations
  • Experience with budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Experience in nonprofit, school, or parish settings preferred
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage complexity and lead cross-functional processes
  • Valid Texas driver's license required
  • Must be 21 years of age or older

Additional Requirements:

•    Must submit to employment required screenings including a criminal history background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug screening
•    Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources
•    Position requires adherence to Diocesan policies and procedures
