Job description

Job ID: 801312 Position: Paralegal, Public Records Client: ISP Duration: 7 Months Location: 100 N Senate Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46204 Position is on-site, Monday through Friday, either 7 am to 3 pm or 8 am to 4 pm, 1/2 hour unpaid lunch. Selected candidate will be required to pass a 5-panel drug screen and ISP background check, which may include credit record, financial record, educational record, criminal record, employment record, medical record, military record, or Selective Service record. To serve as a professional staff employee of the Indiana State Police whose primary responsibility is to assist the Department's Legal Counsel and members of the Legal Office.

Job Duties Process incoming Public Records Requests and fulfill within the allotted timeframe. Research and analyze law sources, including statutes, recorded judicial decisions, and legal codes related to public records Learn and apply the Indiana Code to APRA requests for the determination of release or denial of records. Process body and dash camera footage to ensure appropriate redactions are made per IC Review the Indiana Code and Indiana Administrative Code to make proposals regarding potential language changes.

Coordinate the assembly of documentation required as a result of subpoenas and discovery requests, if needed Ensure proper indexing and filing of original legal documents as needed Answer phones for Legal Office personnel Perform other duties as required Required skills : High school diploma or GED required. Paralegal certification with 2 years of paralegal experience. Must be at least 18 years old.

Strong attention to detail. Able to communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and orally. Prior experience handling sensitive or confidential information.

Prior experience w/Legal Research sites LexisNexis and Westlaw. Prior experience conceptualizing and developing programs and procedures. Basic Computer skills.

Paralegal competency certification w/National Federation of Paralegal Associations or CLA/CP certification w/National Assoc of Legal Assistants. Associate's degree (or higher) with Paralegal Studies w/certification. • Paralegal certification with 2 years of paralegal experience.
