What is a packaging internship?

A Packaging Internship is a temporary, entry-level position where students or recent graduates gain hands-on experience in the packaging industry. Interns typically assist with designing, testing, and improving packaging for products, while learning about materials, sustainability, and manufacturing processes. These internships provide valuable exposure to real-world projects, teamwork, and industry software, helping interns build relevant skills for a career in packaging engineering or design.

What types of projects or responsibilities can I expect during a packaging internship?

As a Packaging Intern, you’ll typically work on hands-on projects such as assisting with the design and testing of packaging prototypes, conducting sustainability or cost analyses, and supporting production line trials. You may also collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, engineering, and quality assurance, to ensure packaging solutions meet both aesthetic and functional requirements. This role offers the opportunity to gain practical experience with CAD software, materials testing, and supplier communication, providing a comprehensive view of the packaging development process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a packaging intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Packaging Intern, a background in packaging engineering, industrial design, or a related field is essential, often supported by coursework or relevant academic projects. Familiarity with design software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks, as well as basic knowledge of packaging materials and manufacturing processes, is typically required. Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this role. These skills and qualifications ensure that interns can contribute to innovative packaging solutions, maintain product quality, and collaborate efficiently within a multidisciplinary team.

What is the difference between Packaging Internship vs Packaging Technician?
