BMC is a local, independent, and physician-owned medical group with over 20 primary and specialty care departments, 90 providers, and 325+ clinical and support professionals. Since our founding by 10 physicians in 1949, we have grown and evolved to meet the needs of Boulder County and beyond.
We currently have clinics located in Boulder (2 locations), Louisville, Longmont, and Erie.
Summary:
This exciting internship at Boulder Medical Center (BMC) is for University of Colorado seniors with a pre-med focus. We are specifically targeting students graduating in May, August, and December of 2027. This internship offers hands-on healthcare experience and course credit. Through BMC's MA Internship Program, interns gain proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and develop the skills to work as fully trained Medical Assistants.
These internships primarily take place in Primary Care specialties, including Family Medicine and Internal Medicine, with additional opportunities available in Dermatology, Allergy, Pediatrics, OB-GYN, and Orthopedics.
Work schedules are generally Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, 10 hours per week over 6 - 12 months with weekends and major holidays off.

Program Overview:
  • Phase I: Master EPIC, one of the most advanced EMR systems in healthcare. Interns focus on reviewing medical records, scanning and documenting diagnostic test results, categorizing progress notes, and more.
  • Phase II: Train as a Medical Assistant (MA). Guided by nurse educators, interns learn essential administrative tasks, how to stock and prepare exam rooms, perform EKGs, and conduct point of care (POC) tests (e.g., urinalysis, pregnancy tests, strep tests, and more).
  • Job Placement (optional): Nurse educators assist interested interns with permanent MA job placement opportunities upon completing the program.

Experience and Skills
Education:
  • Must be enrolled in a healthcare program within a higher education facility.
  • Must be Graduating within 1 year of application.

Previous Experience:
  • Previous experience with medical terminology, preferred.
