Overnight Nurse (RN) | Orange County

Alter Behavioral Health is an adult mental health treatment provider with a network of upscale inpatient residential facilities in Orange County and San Diego.

  • 12 Hour Shift: NOC 7:00 PM โ€“ 7:30 AM
  • 3 / 4 Alternating Schedule: Thursdayโ€“Saturday + every other Wednesday
  • Competitive Compensation: $42.00 โ€“ $49.00/hour (RN DOE)
  • Location: You will be assigned to one of our Orange County residential facilities located in Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, Capistrano Beach, or Irvine.

What Youโ€™ll Do

Medication Management

  • Administer, dispense, and document medications in accordance with physician orders and facility protocols
  • Monitor for side effects and report concerns promptly

Client Monitoring & Care

  • Observe client physical and mental health status throughout the shift
  • Obtain and document vital signs as required
  • Respond promptly to changes in condition or medical needs

Client Support & Engagement

  • Provide therapeutic support and build rapport with clients
  • Answer health-related questions and reinforce treatment goals
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment

Crisis Intervention

  • Respond effectively to medical or psychiatric emergencies
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques and provide immediate care as needed
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership during escalations

Documentation & Communication

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in EMR systems
  • Communicate observations and concerns to clinical and leadership teams
  • Ensure continuity of care through clear shift reporting

Collaboration & Program Support

  • Work closely with physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Support overall program operations and client care standards

What Weโ€™re Looking For

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ year experience in behavioral health or residential treatment settings
  • Overnight nursing or healthcare experience
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices
  • Crisis prevention/intervention certification (CPI, PMAB, HWC, or equivalent)
  • EMR experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required. Bachelorโ€™s Degree preferred.
  • Current California RN license in good standing (no board actions)
  • Prior experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or substance use treatment preferred
  • Knowledge of medication administration, mental health conditions, and recovery principles

Requirements

  • Valid California Driverโ€™s License required
  • Ability to reliably work the assigned overnight schedule with consistent attendance and punctuality
  • CPR & First Aid certification required
  • Must pass Live Scan fingerprint clearance
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

  • Frequent walking, standing, and client monitoring
  • Ability to remain alert throughout overnight shifts
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs in multi-level residential homes
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
