Job Title: Survey Technician
Location: Ainsworth, Brown County, Nebraska
Agency: USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (No overtime unless approved)
Position Overview:
The Survey Technician will support NRCS conservation efforts in Brown County by performing technical and administrative tasks related to land surveys, conservation practice implementation, and documentation. This role involves both fieldwork and office-based responsibilities, requiring proficiency in engineering tools, GIS software, and USDA protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct land surveys and collect field data using GPS and GIS tools.
  • Implement and inspect conservation practices.
  • Certify and document completed practices in compliance with USDA standards.
  • Use engineering software including ArcGIS, Engineering Field Tools, and Toolkit.
Administrative & Planning Tasks:
  • Compile documentation and follow up with producers.
  • Assist in developing conservation plans.
  • Maintain accurate travel logs and reports.
  • Create and manage documents and spreadsheets using Word and Excel.
Customer Service & Compliance:
  • Interact professionally with landowners and NRCS staff.
  • Ensure compliance with USDA policies, safety standards, and security protocols.
  • Protect Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
  • Attend mandatory USDA training (IT security, anti-harassment, records management).
Qualifications:
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and engineering/GIS software.
  • Familiarity with conservation practices and USDA procedures.
  • Ability to pass background checks, fingerprinting, and Homeland Security compliance.
Additional Information:
  • Travel: Occasional overnight travel may be required; travel-related overtime may be billable.
  • Training: Mandatory USDA training to be completed within the first 6 months.
  • Reports: Monthly performance matrix/reporting required.
  • Insurance: Workers' compensation, general liability, and auto liability coverage required.
