Job description

Position Summary

The Quote Coordinator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive customer quotations for printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) manufacturing services. This position serves as the central coordinator between Sales, Program Management, Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Test Engineering, Quality, suppliers, and customers to ensure that all technical and commercial requirements are understood and included in each quotation.

The ideal candidate has experience in electronics manufacturing and understands the complete PCBA process, including BOM review, PCB fabrication, SMT assembly, through-hole assembly, testing, tooling, materials, labor, and non-recurring engineering costs.

This role requires strong attention to detail, technical understanding, organization, communication, and the ability to manage multiple quotation deadlines while supporting profitable business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare complete customer quotations for new products, repeat builds, and engineering changes.
  • Review customer RFQs and identify all technical, material, manufacturing, testing, quality, and documentation requirements.
  • Review Bills of Material, assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, Gerber files, pick-and-place files, assembly instructions, customer specifications, AVL/AML requirements, quality clauses, and revision histories.
  • Coordinate quoting activities with Sales, Program Management, Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Test Engineering, Quality, PCB fabricators, component suppliers, and outside service providers.
  • Obtain and analyze supplier quotations for components, PCB fabrication, outside processing, tooling, fixtures, and other required services.
  • Identify long lead-time components, minimum order quantities, excess material exposure, lifecycle concerns, supply chain risks, and material availability issues.
  • Estimate costs related to materials, PCB fabrication, SMT assembly, through-hole assembly, manual assembly, mechanical assembly, box build, cable assemblies, testing, programming, fixtures, tooling, engineering support, NPI, NRE, conformal coating, selective solder, X-ray inspection, BGA inspection, rework, packaging, serialization, burn-in, environmental testing, source inspection, First Article Inspection, freight, expedite fees, and customer-specific documentation.
  • Evaluate manufacturing complexity, including board size, layer count, BGAs, CSPs, QFNs, press-fit connectors, mixed technology assemblies, IPC requirements, panelization, prototype versus production builds, yield assumptions, and test strategies.
  • Document quote assumptions, risks, supplier pricing, customer clarifications, engineering notes, revision history, and cost models.
  • Ensure quotations are accurate, complete, competitive, and submitted on time.
  • Support quote review meetings and assist with resolving technical or commercial questions before quote submission.
  • Maintain accurate records to support quote accuracy, margin review, and future quote revisions.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Business, Electronics Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 3 to 7 years of experience in electronics manufacturing, PCBA, EMS, quoting, purchasing, program coordination, manufacturing engineering support, or related experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of PCBA manufacturing, SMT assembly, through-hole assembly, PCB fabrication, BOM structures, AVL/AML requirements, electronic components, IPC standards, testing methods, manufacturing flow, supply chain fundamentals, and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, manufacturing documentation, customer specifications, and technical packages.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and follow-up skills.
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to work with detailed cost models, BOMs, and pricing information.
  • Ability to manage multiple quotations, deadlines, and priorities while maintaining accuracy.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify missing information, risk areas, and cost drivers.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Experience

  • Contract electronics manufacturing or PCBA quoting experience.
  • Experience with high-mix, low-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, medical electronics, robotics, advanced industrial, or other highly regulated customers.
  • Experience with prototype builds, NPI, production builds, box build, cable assemblies, or electromechanical assemblies.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 13485, IPC standards, customer quality clauses, and traceability requirements.
  • Experience working with PCB fabricators, electronic component suppliers, test providers, and outside processing vendors.

Success Profile

The successful Quote Coordinator combines technical understanding, commercial judgment, and strong quantitative acumen. They are comfortable working with detailed cost data, recognizing patterns in numbers, identifying inconsistencies, and asking questions when something does not look right. They understand manufacturing cost drivers and can connect customer requirements, material costs, labor, testing, tooling, lead times, and risk factors into a complete and accurate quotation.

This person is highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive. They follow through on open items, keep quote activity moving, communicate clearly with cross-functional teams, and identify potential issues before they affect quote accuracy, timing, or profitability. The ideal candidate serves as an important bridge between customer requirements and manufacturing capabilities while helping Absolute EMS support profitable growth and strong customer relationships.
