About the role

We are seeking a proactive, schedule-adhering, and detail-oriented Material Flow Coordinator to join our Supply Chain team, supporting both daily operations and New Product Introduction (NPI). The main objective of this position is to facilitate material movement across various factory cells, including machining, heat treat, surface finish, outside processing, assembly, receiving inspection, shipping, and receiving.

The Material Flow Coordinator works closely with Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, Production teams, and Suppliers to ensure timely sourcing and procurement of materials, components, and services that meet product requirements and uphold high standards for quality, value, and performance.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to support a diverse portfolio of both existing and new products within a dynamic and high-quality manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilizes MRP to release work orders supporting the Master Production Schedule, manages work orders to meet service level objectives, keeps data current, coordinates with buyer/planner for purchased part shortages, and performs back flushing of work orders.
  • Ensures kanban is maintained according to standard work.
  • Creates and executes transfer orders with the Accokeek plant.
  • Oversees movement of rejected material to MRB area or returns to vendor and completes required inventory transactions in the ERP system.
  • Develops and implements procedures for specific situations to maintain inventory accuracy and management; collaborates with peers in other IPEs for consistent methodology; ensures material handlers perform accurate and timely transactions to reflect material location; re-classes inventory as needed.
  • Finds and corrects root causes of material shortages.
  • Coordinates daily production schedules with production supervisors and technicians.
  • Releases purchase orders for outside processing and follows up with vendors on delays.
  • Updates MRP planning parameters for manufactured parts to support lean objectives.
  • Implements outputs from engineering release and change management processes related to manufactured parts.
  • Supports buyer/planner on cost reduction projects as needed.
  • Identifies and drives process improvement for transactional processes.
  • Shares best practices with Italian counterparts.
  • Follows department standard work and maintains electronic supplier files.
  • Identifies and resolves problems promptly.
  • Gathers and analyzes information using Lean Thinking, then develops and implements solutions.
  • Writes clearly and informatively, presents numerical data effectively, and prepares reports as requested by management.
  • Maintains a clean and neat workstation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience & Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in business management, Logistics, or Supply Management is preferred, or an associate's degree with a minimum of two years of experience or,
  • Over five years of experience in material planning within a mid-volume discrete machining and assembly business.
  • CPIM certification is a plus.
  • Experience in a machine shop environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting daily requirements.
  • Basic problem-solving skills and familiarity with lean manufacturing tools.
  • Knowledge and experience with ISO 9000 quality systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with project teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, able to use basic Excel data analysis tools, and has working knowledge of ERP systems (JD Edwards E1 preferred).
