Description
JOB SUMMARY
The External Organizer uses best practices and strategies to guide healthcare workers to advocate for themselves, their patients, their families, and our communities. As an ONA organizer, you will identify and develop leaders and support unorganized healthcare workers to form their union. You may also work on internal campaigns, mapping units, identifying and developing leaders, and building and coordinating contract actions teams.
The External Organizer works in a supportive and collaborative way with their team that is inclusive and representative of, and committed to, racial and LGBTQ+ equity. They will meet with their team regularly, each organizer meeting with their Lead and Deputy Director to strategize and strengthen our work. They will assist with one another's campaigns, and work with a coach for professional growth and continued development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Work and communicate effectively with prospective and current ONA members.
• Create, run, and evaluate strategic organizing campaigns.
• Collaborate, coordinate, and support the ONA organizing department.
• Participate in and support ONA's organization-wide programs and campaigns.
• Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Job Knowledge: Must possess and continually update requisite knowledge and understanding of assigned duties, responsibilities, policies, procedures and compliance requirements to perform the position.

Communication: Must communicate effectively and respectfully with co-workers and associates verbally and in writing. Must follow instructions and share information appropriately.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1.A minimum of 3 years' experience as a union organizer, community or political organizer, or a labor union representative.
2.Candidates with professional experience in the healthcare sector, including RN's, are encouraged to apply.

Licenses: Valid Oregon driver's license , acceptable driving record, and automobile liability coverage or access to an insured vehicle.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Proficient in MS Office: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Office Outlook, and membership databases. Experience in PC environments, database programs, and the knowledge of or ability to learn about relevant labor law, Nurse Practice Act, HIPAA, and Oregon's Staffing Law (HB 2697).

Statewide travel may be required along with evening or weekend work. The position requires a valid Oregon driver's license. Hybrid schedules are available as appropriate for job duties and subject to supervisor approval.
