Equality Florida is the state's largest civil rights organization dedicated to securing full equality for Florida's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community. We're changing Florida through lobbying, grassroots organizing, education, and coalition building - so that no one suffers harassment or discrimination on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.
Since our founding in 1997, we've become one of the largest statewide LGBTQ groups in the country with more than 400,000 supporters, more than 15,000 volunteers, and staff located in major Florida cities to organize and support our work.
The Field and Community Organizing Department:
Equality Florida's Field Department aims to mobilize strong grassroots support to build local actions supporting pro-equality policies and opposing policy harming the pro-equality community. The Field Department is responsible for the statewide elections program, pride outreach, data analysis and input, and grassroots mobilization for statewide actions.
Supporting the Field Department
Field fellows will work with their respective field staff to engage in grassroots outreach with an emphasis on campaign-style election mobilization.
This is a hybrid role where most of the work will be done virtually, but we will ask for assistance on in-person actions. Paid fellowships are a maximum of 12 hours per week commitment, and we expect Fellows to meet all 12 hours each week.
Responsibilities:
  • Identify progressive/LGBTQ events in the area to increase visibility
  • Train and recruit volunteers
  • Collect stories and build relationships with the community
  • Mobilize Equality Florida's membership to attend field events
  • Participate in and manage field events with the Field Organizer
  • Assist in the approval/passage of pro-equality policies

Successful fellows should:
  • Have event planning and organizing skills
  • Be organized and detail oriented
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Have a reliable smartphone and laptop for use
  • Have occasional weekend and weeknight availability
  • Be comfortable speaking to strangers and people with different world/political views
  • Be incredibly passionate about advancing LGBTQ+ rights and/or helping LGBTQ+ Floridians

What Else You Should Know:
  • We are hiring applicants in Tallahassee.
  • The pay for this position is $15/hour or $18/hour for South FL applicants.
  • The Community Organizing Fellows are expected to begin 6/15/26 and end on 8/28/26.
    • We will be hiring 2 fellows for this Community Organizing Fellowship Cohort, located in Jacksonville and South Florida.
