Job description

We are seeking a Legal & OREO Asset Officer to support legal matters, commercial loan closings, foreclosure and enforcement matters, and OREO asset management from foreclosure through disposition. This role requires someone who can coordinate with internal teams and outside parties, manage follow-up independently, identify documentation or property-related issues, and escalate legal, business, or asset-management concerns when needed.

Compensation:

$95,000 - $105,000


Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the preparation, review, and organization of legal documents, commercial loan documents, contracts, agreements, corporate documents, and related correspondence.

  • Work closely with the Loan Closing Department to review closing requirements, track outstanding items, coordinate with borrowers and third parties, and support the efficient closing of commercial loans.

  • Coordinate with outside counsel, borrowers, title companies, escrow officers, receivers, brokers, property managers, vendors, tenants, and internal departments regarding legal matters, loan closings, post-closing matters, foreclosure matters, and OREO assets.

  • Monitor litigation updates, bankruptcy issues, borrower disputes, foreclosure process matters, loan enforcement issues, and the transition of foreclosed collateral into OREO assets.

  • Oversee OREO assets from foreclosure or acquisition through stabilization, operation, marketing, sale, or other disposition.

  • Coordinate property inspections, occupancy/access issues, maintenance, repairs, property preservation, vacant units, tenant issues, and vendor work.

  • Review property-level financial information, budgets, expenses, repair estimates, rent collections, marketing activity, and disposition strategy to help preserve asset value.

  • Prepare status reports and updates regarding legal matters, loan closings, foreclosure matters, OREO assets, property conditions, tenant issues, and disposition progress.

  • Assist with legal billing, scheduling, correspondence, filing, vendor coordination, property-related documentation, and other legal department or asset-management administrative tasks as needed.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in law, Legal Studies, Business, Finance, Real Estate, or a related field; paralegal certificate, legal training, or equivalent practical experience is a plus.

  • Approximately 2–5 years of relevant experience in legal, real estate, banking, commercial lending, escrow, title, loan closing, property management, foreclosure, or OREO asset management strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of legal terminology, commercial real estate documents, loan documentation, closing procedures, foreclosure process, and basic property-management concepts.

  • Able to manage multiple matters, track deadlines, follow up independently, identify incomplete or inconsistent documentation, and escalate issues when legal or business judgment is needed.

  • Able to communicate professionally with internal staff, outside counsel, borrowers, title companies, escrow officers, tenants, receivers, brokers, property managers, vendors, and other third parties.

  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and reviewing electronic documents.

  • Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is highly preferred.
