Job Summary
The Operations Engineer is responsible for providing operational and engineering review and evaluation in support of Supply Operations goals and objectives with an emphasis on treatment processes. This position is under the general direction of the Manager, Supply Operations Southern Division. Assignments may include evaluations of current and future operations at surface water treatment plants, well supplies, as well as distribution system facilities.
Principal Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the oversight and maintenance of water quality and treatment in the Southern Division systems. Assures and attests to the reliability of the compliance data generated at the treatment plants.
  • Interacts with the plant operations staff and department Process Engineer to ensure that department treatment and water quality goals are achieved.
  • Support planning and execution of capital and recurring engineering projects as point of contact for contractors and consultants.
  • Continuously reviews current water treatment practices and makes recommendations for operating modifications to Manager and department Process Engineer that improve water quality, increase operating flexibility and reduce costs.
  • Provides technical assistance to the operating staff to increase treatment efficiency.
  • Maintains current knowledge of treatment scenarios at each of Southern Division's treatment facilities.
  • Maintains current knowledge of new and innovative treatment techniques and updates operating staff of new developments in technology.
  • Assists manager and supervisors with preparation of operating, maintenance and capital budgets.
  • Works with others in the Department and other departments as necessary.
  • May assume temporary responsibility of an individual work group or the department, when required, in the absence of the primary supervisor. May be called upon during emergencies for technical assistance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to design and operation.

Preferred Requirements
  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in drinking water engineering, water quality/treatment management or other related discipline required.
  • Excellent planning, organizing, analytical and communication skills required
  • Applicant must obtain a Connecticut Class IV Water Treatment License within two (2) of eligibility
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft office products and company's software SAP, GIS, WIMS programs.

Education/Certifications
  • BS in Engineering, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related program a minimum. MS preferred.

Salary
  • Job is classified as an exempt position with an annual salary range of $95,680 to $119,600
  • This role reports out of the Greenwich, CT treatment plant.
  • Hours for this role are 7:00AM to 3:30PM, Monday through Friday.
