Finance Operations Director

Location: Charlottesville, VA (On-site)
Job Type: Direct Hire
Starting Salary: From $120,000 to $140,000 annually (Depending on Experience)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced finance professional to oversee accounting and financial operations for a growing organization. This leadership role combines strategic financial planning with hands‑on involvement in daily accounting functions. The ideal candidate has a strong background in financial management, process improvement, compliance, and leading high‑performing teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct all accounting and finance operations.
  • Manage the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, reconciliations, and month‑end/year‑end close.
  • Prepare financial statements, executive reports, and other financial analyses.
  • Oversee cash flow, treasury activities, banking relationships, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, financial forecasts, and business performance reporting.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and improve accounting procedures and reporting processes.
  • Identify financial risks and implement process improvements that increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Coordinate financial audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Create financial models, dashboards, KPIs, and executive‑level reporting tools.
  • Partner with company leadership to support business planning and financial decision‑making.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting and finance team while promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing accounting or finance teams.
  • Strong experience with:
    • Financial reporting
    • Month‑end and year‑end close
    • Budgeting and forecasting
    • Cash flow management
    • Internal controls
    • Financial analysis
  • Experience improving accounting processes and implementing effective financial controls.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting practices.
  • Experience managing audits, tax compliance, and banking relationships.
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work on‑site in Charlottesville, VA.
Preferred
  • CPA, CMA, or other professional accounting certification.
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Experience using CargoWise, QuickBooks, or similar accounting software.
  • Experience with treasury management, working capital, and executive financial reporting.
