Job description

The Senior Systems Trainer is responsible for the design, implementation, and delivery of engaging, practical, and systems-focused learning experiences that support Stanley Martin Homes’ team members. This role helps ensure Purchasing, Estimating, Construction, and other field team members are prepared to execute Stanley Martin’s purchasing processes, supplier management practices, cost controls, and HomebuilderONE (HB1) requirements consistently across all regions and divisions.

The Senior Systems Trainer partners closely with Learning & Development, Division and Corporate leaders and subject matter experts to support the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of system training programs. This individual must be a self-starter who can work independently in a remote environment while remaining highly collaborative, communicative, and aligned with team goals. The role requires being managed remotely and the ability to travel up to 15-20% to support divisional training needs.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Partner with Learning & Development designers, Division and Corporate leaders, and subject matter experts to identify training needs, gather critical content, and validate field accuracy to design impactful learning experiences.
  • Lead the design and maintenance of our purchasing, estimating, and construction systems training content, exercises, presentations, and accompanying materials to create full curriculum and balanced eLearning, video, and ILT approaches to learning.
  • Facilitate engaging systems-focused learning sessions for new hires and incumbent team members using various forms and formats, including group discussion, presentations, field demonstrations, simulations, videos, role-plays, and hands-on coaching.
  • Deliver training that supports purchasing, estimating, and construction readiness, cost management practices, vendor relationships, scheduling requirements, documentation standards, and system execution.
  • Adapt facilitation style to meet the needs of different learner groups, experience levels, regional practices, and various roles across multiple departments.
  • Serve as a purchasing subject matter resource, helping drive consistency in procurement practices, trade partner management, purchasing workflows, and system utilization across divisions.
  • Assist with new hire onboarding and ongoing training initiatives to increase individual competency, confidence, and readiness in construction knowledge, company policy, jobsite practices, process execution, and systems usage.
  • Reinforce post-training applications through coaching, mentoring support, follow-up sessions, check-ins, and observations of execution.
  • Observe and assess learner performance in both classroom and field settings, providing constructive feedback to support growth, consistency, and accountability.
  • Maintain accurate records of training and development activities, attendance, assessments, learner progress, and completion status within Stanley Martin’s Learning Management System.
  • Participate in evaluating program effectiveness through assessments, surveys, learner feedback, field observations, and input from Division and Corporate leadership.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Stanley Martin system practices, quality standards, training trends, and relevant homebuilding industry practices.
  • Proactively communicate with remote leadership, project stakeholders, field leaders, and cross-functional partners.
  • Manage time, travel, schedules, and training deliverables independently.
  • Represent the company professionally in all interactions.
  • Complete all other duties assigned by the manager.
  • Adhere to and promote the Mission, Vision, and Values of Stanley Martin Homes.

Position Requirements:

  • Expertise residential homebuilding purchasing experience and homebuilding systems and tools (e.g., HomebuilderONE).
  • Minimum of 5+ years of purchasing, construction operations, homebuilding, or related subject matter experience.
  • Experience training, coaching, mentoring, or leading others in a purchasing, estimating, construction operations or homebuilding environment (preferred).
  • Ability to travel to communities, divisional offices, jobsites, and training locations as needed.
  • High level of professionalism, sound judgment, and ability to represent Stanley Martin Homes in alignment with company standards and values.
