Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing in the overall management of nursing services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care that meets all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. The ADON provides leadership to nursing staff, assists with policy development and implementation, and promotes a culture of clinical excellence and resident safety.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Assist the DON in planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day operations of the Nursing Department.

  • Supervise nursing personnel, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and skill mix to meet resident needs.

  • Participate in recruitment, hiring, orientation, and ongoing performance evaluations of nursing staff.

  • Provide mentorship and coaching to charge nurses and CNAs to support professional growth and retention.

Clinical Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (CMS, Department of Public Health) and facility policies.

  • Monitor resident care plans and clinical documentation for accuracy and timeliness.

  • Oversee infection prevention and control programs; collaborate with the Infection Preventionist to implement interventions.

  • Assist with quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives.

Resident Care & Family Relations

  • Serve as a clinical resource for complex resident care issues.

  • Communicate effectively with residents and families to address concerns and ensure satisfaction.

  • Participate in care plan meetings and interdisciplinary team discussions.

Education & Training

  • Develop and deliver staff education and in-service programs.

  • Ensure that nursing staff maintain required competencies and certifications.

  • Promote evidence-based practices and current standards of care.

Administrative & Compliance

  • Assist in preparing for state surveys and regulatory inspections.

  • Maintain accurate records and reports as required by law and facility policy.

  • Participate in budget planning and monitor nursing department expenses.

Qualifications
  • Current RN license in the state of [State Name] in good standing.
