Job Overview:
Monitor Technicians must demonstrate awareness of patient's rights in all aspects of patient care and reports issue to appropriate person. The Monitor Technician must pass and maintain Basic Dysrhythmia training. The Monitor Technician must demonstrate clinical competence in areas applicable to the care center/unit and must be able to successfully demonstrate leadership through unit coordination.
Is a member of the multidisciplinary team under the direction of the RN. Communicates to the RN pertinent findings or observations noted. Keep timely and accurate documents of all care provided in electronic medical record. Successfully completed Basic Dysrhythmia and observes patient rhythms and reports changes to registered nurse. Major functions of the Monitor Technician are listed below and other duties as assigned.
  • Receives and provides appropriate handoff
  • Interprets rhythm strips for shift
  • Send monitor strips and ectopy into EPIC
  • Recognizes both normal and abnormal rhythms on monitor
  • Notification of appropriate staff of low battery or leads off
  • Communication is escaladed to Charge Nurse, ADON, Team Leader and/or Unit Manager as need to ensure patients are placed back on monitor in a timely manner.
  • Familiar with remote telemetry procedure and log book
  • Complete telemetry verification process daily
  • Able to print out 24 hour trends
  • Pulls strips in timely manner for new patient returning from surgery or Cath lab.
  • Satisfactorily performs duties as they relate to Ethics, Cultural Diversity, Confidentiality, Age-Specific Growth and Development, and Customer Service issues.

Required: Certifications/Licenses/Education:
  • Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider, within six months of hire.
  • Completion of a high school education or equivalent (GED) preferred
  • Successfully completes Epic class as required by care center/unit
  • Successfully passes Basic Dysrhythmia test as required by unit
