Job Summary/General Purpose:
The Terminal Supervisor will actively work in conjunction with the Terminal Manager to provide direct supervision of the hourly employees at either the Providence Terminal or the Quincy Terminals, where all are involved in operations and maintenance of the equipment and the facility.
Duties:
  • Supervise, manage, and develop employees, as well as to address performance issues.
  • Serve in a management capacity, supporting the Terminal Manager in achieving Terminal performance objectives.
  • Communicate, monitor, and administer compliance with all safety, operating, environmental and business procedures / standards, policies, and management directives.
  • Work closely with other Sprague departments and third-party customers to ensure marine, pipeline and other types of product transfers are completed in a safe, timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
  • Work with Terminal Manager, contractors and engineers on projects related to terminal operations such as tank inspections, projects, and business growth initiatives.
  • Oversee contractors and enforce their compliance with all applicable terminal operations procedures / standards and policies.
  • Supervise all aspects of safe, reliable, and responsible terminal operations (pipeline, marine, rack operations, etc).
  • Ensure all applicable company policies and terminal SOP's are being followed (Detex, Inventory, SWPPP, Day tank or internal transfers, Work Permits, etc.)
  • Identify high performing employees and create additional opportunities for their professional development and leadership.
  • Establish high standards for performance and hold reports accountable.
  • Ensure availability during periods when assigned as Manager on Call.
  • Take an active role in Terminal All Hands meetings and be prepared to plan and present appropriate topics.
  • Understand terminal budgeting process, assist engineering to manage projects from design through safe execution on time and budget, interface with internal and external customers, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Work with federal, state and local officials in a professional manner to ensure terminal compliance with all applicable procedures and laws pertaining to terminal operations.

Education/Experience/Requirements:
  • Experienced in terminal operations.
  • Proven competency within current core responsibilities and successful track record of learning both operations and new technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify safety risks, and communicate lessons learned along with suggestions to reduce or eliminate risks.
  • Ability to handle issues quickly, safely, and effectively in a stressful operating environment.
  • Strong advocate of continuous improvement demonstrated through various work experiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with peers, supervisors, and junior employees.
  • Strong role model and demonstrated ability to lead by example in coaching and mentoring people.
  • Strong proven personnel management record of accomplishment including ability to demonstrate leadership potential through core job responsibilities or temporary assignments.
  • Proven analytical and presentation skills.
  • Skilled in MS Office software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in rack automation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization.
  • Valid driver's license and TWIC or ability to obtain a TWIC required.
  • Ability to learn through hands on training and work outside in all types of weather.
  • High school diploma

If you have experience troubleshooting mechanical and piping systems, and are able to supervisor others, we want to hear from you. Successful candidates will possess strong organizational and project management skills as well as written, oral and interpersonal skills with staff, vendors, and customers. Experience using computers for tracking, planning, and scheduling is necessary.
Physical activity/strength requirements are demanding and may include:
  • Frequent standing, climbing-stairs, ladders, slopes (i.e., tank ladders/stairs/ramps), grasping/handling, and in/out of truck.
  • Constant walking.
  • Occasional bending/stooping, squatting, crawling, kneeling, twisting, balancing, and sitting.
  • Lifting/carrying up to -100lbs (i.e. oil, steel parts, spouts, tools)
  • Constant pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs. (i.e. mooring lines, barge and ship hoses)
  • Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions, petroleum products, fumes and odors and slippery surfaces caused by weather conditions.

Pay Range $75,000-$90,000 annually based on experience
