About the Role

The OGC Assistant - Compliance & Intake is an integral part of Latham’s Office of the General Counsel (OGC) team. This role will be responsible for working within the OGC to provide administrative support for the multiple intake compliance programs administered by the local office, while triaging the ethics wall and engagement letter email inboxes to ensure timely responses to inquiries from firm stakeholders This role will be located in our Global Services Office in Downtown Los Angeles. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the firm's ethics walls program by implementing ethics walls, drafting certain ethics wall memos, addressing exception requests, testing updates to the ethics wall system, and assisting with other ad hoc ethics wall projects, as needed
  • Assisting with administration and enforcement of the firm’s engagement terms policies, including reviewing engagement terms to identify issues and corresponding with attorneys and attorney support to address and resolve any inconsistencies, assisting with other ad hoc engagement letter projects as needed
  • Collecting and cataloguing compliance documentation received as part of the new business intake process, including engagement letters, outside counsel guidelines, and waivers
  • Assisting in the coordination and tracking of attorney external affiliation submissions for review and approval, while assisting with the preparation and delivery of office-wide surveys on a rolling basis and helping to update and maintain records of all affiliations in the firm’s database
  • Providing administrative support to the Compliance & Intake team, including meeting and video conference arrangements, and Chrome River expense reports
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains

  • Exhibit well-developed and professional interpersonal skills including strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to effectively interface with attorneys, management, and support staff
  • Possess the ability to work in a team environment, across multiple offices, collaborate and interact effectively with OGC staff and other firm personnel, with a customer-service focus
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently in a wide variety of duties and seeking guidance or assistance from more senior staff as appropriate

And have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent,
  • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably
  • Prior experience in a law firm or other professional services firm, preferably
