Job description

Overview

OB/OR Technician functions as an integral part of the perioperative team assisting the Provider under the supervision of the Provider and Registered Nurse in delivering safe and effective care to the patient during the intraoperative period. The OB/OR Technician provides clinical expertise in both the delivery room and the OR within Labor and Delivery. Duties may also include clerical support and activities related to personal care and hygiene needs of assigned age-specific population patient group under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Facilitates communication with other departments, visitors, patients, medical staff and employees. Serves a as public relations liaison for the unit.

Qualifications

Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA), Education: Certificate of Completion: Surgical Technology; Experience In Lieu of Education, Work Experience: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA); Worked as CNA within past 24 months; Relevant medical military training; Completion of CNA coursework within past 24 months; At least one semester of nursing clinical experience; Successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program

Responsibilities

Applies the principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner to maintain a sterile environment. Demonstrates competency in select technical and psychomotor skills, judgment and appropriate knowledge base. Provides age specific care to obstetrical patients in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the department.

Assists in organization and coordination of supplies and equipment to maintain an efficient and cost effective department.

Maintains a safe and orderly environment for patients, co-workers and self. Demonstrates awareness of and adherence to safety and legal requirements established at the hospital and unit level and established policies and procedures.

Performs under the direction of the provider during operative procedures to prepare the patient's abdomen, drape the sterile field, and pass instrumentation.

Performs appropriate instrument counts with RN circulator.

Participates in room turnover and set-up

Operates stapling device at the request of, and under the direct supervision of, the provider approximating skin closure.

Maintains and cleans equipment and identifies items needing repair per policy.

Follows aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies and maintains highest standard of sterile techniques during procedure. Prepares instruments for terminal sterilization after use.

Performs patient support duties under the direction of a RN, which may include, but are not limited to: Performs venipuncture, obtains vital signs, weights, and/or blood glucose, and collects, labels, and transports specimens.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $19.86per hour - $32.17per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
