Job description

High-Rise Restoration, Forensics & Building Envelope Engineering

A leading structural engineering and building restoration consulting firm is seeking a Director of Structural Engineering to lead complex restoration and forensic engineering projects. This role is focused on high-rise residential, commercial, and mixed-use buildings, with an emphasis on façade restoration, structural rehabilitation, and compliance-driven inspections.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical leadership, forensic expertise, and experience navigating New York City building regulations and inspection requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead structural engineering and restoration projects across New York City and surrounding markets
  • Serve as Engineer of Record and provide technical oversight for all structural deliverables
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams and oversee day-to-day engineering operations
  • Lead façade assessments, structural evaluations, Local Law compliance inspections, and restoration programs
  • Prepare and review engineering reports, calculations, specifications, and construction documents
  • Conduct forensic investigations involving structural failures, building movement, water infiltration, and construction defects
  • Oversee construction administration including field observations, RFIs, submittals, and contractor coordination
  • Maintain quality assurance and technical consistency across all projects
  • Develop client relationships with property owners, developers, condominium boards, and asset managers
  • Mentor engineering staff and support strategic growth initiatives


RequirementsQualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
  • PE license in New York required; SE license preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in structural engineering and building restoration
  • Strong experience with NYC high-rise buildings, façade systems, and Local Law inspections preferred
  • Expertise in structural analysis, restoration detailing, and forensic engineering
  • Strong understanding of NYC Building Code, ASCE, ACI, AISC, and building envelope systems
  • Proficiency with ETABS, RAM, SAFE, RISA, Revit, and restoration documentation
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
