Building Official/Inspector - Shreveport Area, LA

We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Building Official/Inspector to join our team of professionals. This position offers great opportunity for dynamic, motivated self-starters to work on a variety of work assignments. You’ll be a member of our highly respected team of professionals with a full complement of resources to support you and exciting projects to keep you challenged.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Responsible for meeting all state and locally mandated code compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of building codes, policies, and procedures to the day-to-day functions of the building department.
  • Assists in the development and administration of department and division goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with our clients in this area and is responsible for ensuring that we deliver the highest level of customer service
  • Responsible for attending department and community meetings as required by the client.
  • Prepares program budget and monitors work to ensure that funds and staff time are used effectively and efficiently; analyzes work flow, assignments, priorities and staffing levels.
  • Analyzes, reviews, and prepares code amendments or supplements.
  • Perform some plan reviews both commercial and residential
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
  • Be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of local building code regulations, policies and procedures
  • Have solid computer skills and experience using MS Office programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exercise initiative and display independent judgment
  • Be self-directed and self-motivated
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • ICC Building Official certification OR multiple ICC inspector certifications required
  • LSUCCC certification preferred
  • Inspection experience required
  • Client and team management experience in a building department setting is a plus
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Mobility amp; Movement:

  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling to conduct inspections.

  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or unfinished stairways to access roofs, attics, crawl spaces, and other elevated or confined areas.

  • Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 25–50 pounds (e.g., inspection tools, plans, or small equipment).

Vision amp; Hearing:

  • Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans, technical documents, and observe construction details.

  • Ability to detect safety hazards and defects through visual and auditory inspection.

  • Hearing sufficient to communicate with contractors, workers, and the public in noisy environments.
