CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
UNION: Adjunct Faculty-JUAC, IEA-NEA
REPORTS TO: Department Chair
PLACEMENT: Adjunct Faculty
HIRING RANGE: $39.00 hourly

POSITION SUMMARY
An adjunct community college reference librarian is hired to work as a faculty member on the Reference Desk, teach Library Instruction Sessions, and complete additional project work as assigned by the Department Chair. The librarian reports to the Department Chair; provides quality instruction for the assigned courses. The librarian works with full-time faculty in assessing students, following all course guidelines, and providing research and other instructional assistance. Position is subject to all the terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serve student, staff and public as Faculty contact at Reference Desk.
2. Teach library instruction sessions, information literacy courses, and other library orientation and instructional sessions.
3. Assist students, faculty members, staff and other library patrons in locating information and resources.
4. Provide technical assistance to patrons regarding accurate citation of resources.
5. Instruct patrons in the use of library resources.
6. Effectively communicate with appropriate faculty, staff and Department Chair.
7. Assist in the creation research support materials or services in response to the needs of students, faculty, staff, and other library patrons.
8. Work with full-time faculty in collection maintenance activities.
9. Work at service desk providing circulation and technical assistance to patrons on a supplemental basis.
10. Comply with all legal and ethical obligations, including FERPA, ADA, and other regulatory legislation. Communicate discrepancies to appropriate officials.
11. Commit to furthering the mission, goals, and core values of the college at all times.
12. Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program.
2. Expertise in appropriate technologies for libraries and instruction.
3. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning.
4. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
5. Demonstrated commitment to the college's core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Reference and instruction experience at the collegiate level.
2. Experience at the community college level.
3. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
4. Experience with using course management programs.
5. Experience in library instruction sessions and public presentations.
6. Experience with advanced search and reference database techniques.
7. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
8. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
