Job Description The starting salary range for this position is $49,991 -$58,811, depending on qualifications; full salary range for the position is currently $49,991 to $79,503 annually. The required schedule includes days, evenings, and weekends. Normal Public Library seeks a creative, innovative, technically inclined, and team-oriented individual to join an outstanding Technology Team within an organization dedicated to providing excellent services, collections, and programs to all in our community.

This position is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting and upgrading computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment within the library network, which includes multiple audio/visual components, software and systems. This position reports to the Technology Manager. Duties/Essential Job Functions Provide technical support on library hardware and software.

System Maintenance & Administration: Maintain, configure, and monitor hardware, software, user endpoints, and related network components. Monitor system functions and logs to verify correct system operation. Install and configure PC components in new and existing computers.

Diagnose and test malfunctioning computers, printers or peripherals to determine and implement corrective procedures. Perform repairs as needed. Install and replace inadequate software, update existing software with new releases and make minor modifications as needed to maintain efficient operations and user needs.

Support development and implementation of new hardware/software systems and support ongoing hardware/software replacement projects. Documentation & Reporting: Enter and/or maintain detailed notes, create, maintain, and update the library's knowledge base, and generate reports using various reporting tools. Acquire and maintain technical expertise and proficiency with all related and relevant software and computer systems.

Participate in departmental and library-wide training and activities, including technology and safety training. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside the Town Innovation and Technology Department, other IT departments, project managers, and vendors to ensure technical changes integrate smoothly into daily operations. Research and evaluate new technologies to improve operational efficiency, security, and service delivery.

Respond to questions, requests, or issues concerning technology needs. Perform other duties as assigned, relative to operational needs of the library. Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues efficiently.

Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; able to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical users. Ability to prioritize demands and meet deadlines with a high attention to detail. Strong knowledge of PC and laptop hardware, configuration, and troubleshooting.

Proficiency with Windows 11 operating systems and familiarity with Windows Server OS, macOS, iOS, and other mobile platforms. Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace is required and experience with automated checkout systems, material handling systems, public reservation and print systems is preferred. Understanding of an Integrated Library System and its integral role in library service.

Considers the three pillars (Environmentally Sound, Socially Equitable, Economically Feasible) of the Sustainable Libraries Initiative in day-to-day work. Skilled in documenting procedures, maintaining accurate records, and following established IT support processes. Capable of providing end-user training in both one-on-one and small-group settings.

Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing technologies and expand technical expertise. Work autonomously while collaborating effectively within a team environment. Exercise sound judgment, logic, and reasoning in troubleshooting and decision-making.

Maintain confidentiality and integrity when handling sensitive systems and data. Ability to pass a comprehensive background check. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations of all ages.

Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and to varied work schedules. Physical ability to perform a variety of manual tasks such as lifting, bending, standing, or walking for extended periods of time. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record/history.

Desirable Training and Experience Experience in Information Technology or similar training/experience required. Bachelor's Degree and previous Information Technology experience preferred. Any other combination of education or professional experience in PC support, networking, or systems administration which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
