Job description

About the Company

Our client is a fast-growing, technology-driven mortgage lender on a mission to make home financing faster, simpler, and more transparent. By combining innovative technology with operational excellence, they're transforming the mortgage experience for borrowers while building a best-in-class operations team.

They're looking for a Mortgage Operations Manager to lead and optimize their mortgage fulfillment function. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands every stage of the mortgage lifecycle and enjoys building efficient processes while developing high-performing teams.

What You'll Do

As the Mortgage Operations Manager, you'll oversee the day-to-day execution of mortgage operations from application through funding. You'll partner closely with sales, underwriting, closing, compliance, and executive leadership to ensure loans move efficiently while maintaining exceptional quality and service.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily mortgage operations across the loan lifecycle, ensuring files progress efficiently from application through funding.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of processors, closers, and operations staff.
  • Monitor pipeline health, capacity, productivity, and service-level metrics.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert across processing, underwriting, closing, and funding operations.
  • Step in to support complex or escalated files as needed.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, sales, compliance, secondary marketing, and closing teams to resolve issues quickly.
  • Develop and improve operational workflows, SOPs, and quality control processes.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with agency, investor, federal, and state lending guidelines.
  • Track operational KPIs and implement process improvements that enhance productivity and borrower experience.
  • Support audits, quality control reviews, and investor requirements.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of mortgage operations experience.
  • Demonstrated experience across multiple mortgage functions, including processing, underwriting, and closing.
  • Background in more than one operational discipline (Processor, Underwriter, Closer, Operations Manager, etc.).
  • Previous leadership or people management experience.
  • Strong understanding of the complete mortgage lifecycle from application through funding.
  • Experience working for an Independent Mortgage Bank (IMB) or retail mortgage lender.
  • Deep knowledge of Conventional, FHA, VA, and Jumbo loan products.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing high-volume mortgage operations.
  • Experience improving workflows, implementing SOPs, or driving operational transformation.
  • Familiarity with digital mortgage platforms and automation initiatives.

Who You Are

You're a hands-on mortgage operations leader who understands what it takes to get loans to the closing table. Whether it's helping solve a processing issue, reviewing underwriting conditions, supporting closing, or improving workflows, you're comfortable jumping in wherever needed. You enjoy building efficient teams, solving operational challenges, and creating scalable processes that support growth.

If you've built your career within an IMB and have worn multiple hats across mortgage operations, we'd love to hear from you.
