Introduction
Are you looking for a position that combines your organizational strengths with your customer service skills? Prince William Public Libraries is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, and adaptable individual to join our team as a Library Page. In this role, you'll help ensure library materials are properly shelved and organized, making them easily accessible to both patrons and staff. Library Pages also assist with directional guidance and contribute to special projects that support daily operations. Become a part of the team at Haymarket Gainesville Library in Haymarket, Virginia, and play a meaningful role in serving your community.
About This Role:
As a Page, you will play an important role in ensuring library materials are organized, accessible, and presented in a welcoming environment for patrons. Key responsibilities include:
  • Shelving library materials accurately using alphabetical, numerical, and Dewey Decimal systems
  • Providing excellent internal and external customer service
  • Maintaining the neatness and presentation of the library collection
  • Perform branch opening/closing duties including checking in new and high priority materials and shelving them before opening, checking in materials, straightening books and ensuring shelves look neat and orderly, and working with other staff to sweep the building.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks, including processing materials and generating basic reports
  • Participating in staff meetings, training, and onboarding of incoming staff as needed
  • Assisting with shifting and reorganizing library collections as needed
  • Transporting and redistributing library materials weighing up to 20 pounds
  • May provide passport services

Minimum Requirements:
8th grade education and must be at least 16 years of age
Preferences:
  • Experience working in a public library, bookstore, or similar customer-focused environment
  • Experience accurately filing and organizing materials using alphabetical and numerical systems
  • Experience working with the Dewey Decimal Classification system and standard library filing practices
  • Experience working with a Library Integrated System (e.g., Polaris or similar platforms)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, and virtual meeting platforms such as Webex

Special Requirements: The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.
Work Schedule: This is a part-time, non-exempt, 20-hour a week position. Library hours of operation are Monday-Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Thursday-Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Weekends are a regular part of schedule rotations. Scheduling flexibility is imperative and may vary depending upon the needs of the library.
Starting Salary Range: $20.00/hour
