What are no experience lab jobs?

'No Experience Lab' jobs refer to laboratory positions that do not require prior lab experience or specialized training. These roles are typically entry-level and may include tasks such as assisting with experiments, preparing samples, cleaning equipment, and providing general support to lab staff. They are ideal for individuals looking to start a career in science or research, as on-the-job training is often provided. Employers may look for candidates with a strong interest in science, good organizational skills, and attention to detail. These positions can be found in academic, medical, or industrial lab settings.

What are some entry-level tasks or responsibilities I can expect when joining a laboratory team with no prior experience?

When starting in a laboratory position without prior experience, you can expect to handle foundational tasks that support daily lab operations. These often include preparing materials and equipment, labeling samples, assisting with routine cleaning and organization, and recording data under supervision. You may also shadow experienced technicians or scientists to learn proper procedures and safety protocols. This foundational work helps you build hands-on skills and gain familiarity with laboratory processes, setting the stage for more complex responsibilities as you gain experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a laboratory technician with no prior experience, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Laboratory Technician with no prior experience, you need a basic understanding of scientific principles, attention to detail, and at least a high school diploma or equivalent, with many employers preferring coursework in biology or chemistry. Familiarity with laboratory equipment, safety protocols, and basic data entry systems is typically required. Strong organizational skills, teamwork, and effective communication help you learn quickly and maintain accuracy in a collaborative environment. These skills ensure safe, efficient lab operations and reliable results, which are essential for scientific progress and compliance.

What is the difference between No Experience Lab vs Customer Service Representative?

Job description

Lab Technician II
Direct-Hire Opportunity | Manufacturing & Advanced Materials
FlexTek is recruiting for a Lab Technician II to join the materials testing and R&D laboratory of a growing manufacturing organization. This is a hands-on technical position supporting R&D, Quality, Engineering, and Production.
This is not a traditional pharmaceutical or wet-chemistry lab role. The position is heavily focused on the physical and mechanical testing of rubber, elastomers, plastics/PTFE, O-rings, and engineered components.
The organization is expanding its capabilities within highly regulated markets, including aerospace, creating additional opportunities for the laboratory team to support new product development, materials research, and advanced testing.
What You'll Do
  • Perform routine and complex physical and mechanical testing on rubber, elastomers, plastics/PTFE, O-rings, and other engineered materials.
  • Conduct O-ring, fluid-aging, and other materials performance testing.
  • Perform testing according to ASTM, ISO, customer, and internal specifications.
  • Support incoming raw material testing and quality control.
  • Collect, analyze, calculate, and document test data.
  • Investigate failed parts, nonconforming materials, and production-related issues.
  • Partner with R&D and Engineering on failure analysis, reverse engineering, prototypes, and new product development.
  • Prepare test specimens through molding, cutting, pressing, and machining.
  • Set up, operate, verify, and maintain laboratory testing equipment.
  • Prepare and review technical test reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain calibration, maintenance, and equipment documentation.
  • Identify testing or procedural deviations and communicate findings to laboratory leadership and engineering.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment.
Hands-On Mechanical Work
This role combines laboratory testing with hands-on manufacturing and specimen preparation. Depending on experience, responsibilities may include:
  • Working with rubber milling and molding equipment to prepare test specimens.
  • Sheeting raw rubber and preparing preforms.
  • Stamping and pressing specimens.
  • Operating a small lathe and/or CNC equipment.
  • Machining ASTM test specimens from plastics and other materials.
  • Performing physical and thermoanalytical materials testing.
What We're Looking For
We're open to different experience levels. An experienced Lab Technician with 5-10 years of materials or manufacturing laboratory experience could be a great fit, but candidates earlier in their careers will also be considered if they bring strong mechanical aptitude and relevant technical training.
Relevant experience may include:
  • Physical or mechanical materials testing
  • Rubber, elastomers, polymers, plastics, or PTFE
  • Rubber molding and specimen preparation
  • ASTM testing, including ASTM D471
  • ISO or other regulated testing environments
  • O-rings, seals, or fluid-aging testing
  • Basic machining, lathe, or CNC operation
  • Manufacturing quality control and incoming material testing
  • Failure analysis and production troubleshooting
  • Aerospace, automotive, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments

Associate degree in a related technical field or equivalent relevant experience preferred.
Who Will Be Successful?
We're looking for someone who enjoys being hands-on and mechanically involved in the testing process. You should be comfortable moving between the laboratory and manufacturing/shop environment, operating equipment, preparing specimens, following detailed testing procedures, and analyzing results.
Candidates coming from materials testing, manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, rubber/plastics, mechanical testing, or industrial laboratory environments are especially encouraged to apply.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
You'll join an established technical team.
Rather than performing the same test every day, you'll have exposure to Quality, R&D, Engineering, production troubleshooting, failure analysis, materials testing, machining, and product development.
Interested? Apply today or contact FlexTek to learn more about the opportunity.
