How much do night shift medical coding icd 10 jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 27, 2026, the average hourly pay for night shift medical coding icd 10 in the United States is $22.42, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.03 and $24.04 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Will AI eventually replace medical coders?

AI technology is increasingly used to assist medical coders by automating routine coding tasks and improving accuracy, but it is unlikely to fully replace medical coders in the near future. Medical coding requires critical thinking, understanding complex medical records, and applying nuanced judgment, which currently benefits from human oversight and expertise. Certified medical coders with knowledge of ICD-10 and coding guidelines will continue to be essential in ensuring accurate billing and compliance.

Can medical coders work overnight?

Night shift medical coders, including those specializing in ICD-10 coding, often work overnight or during evening hours as part of healthcare facility staffing. These roles require strong attention to detail, familiarity with coding software, and adherence to deadlines, with some positions offering 24-hour coverage to support hospital operations and patient care documentation.

What pays more, CCS or CPC?

In medical coding, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credentials generally lead to higher salaries compared to Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credentials, as CCS is often associated with hospital coding and more complex cases. However, pay can vary based on experience, location, and employer, with CCS-certified coders typically earning a premium due to the specialized nature of their work. Both certifications are valuable for night shift medical coders working with ICD-10 codes, but CCS tends to offer higher earning potential overall.

How much do ICD-10 coders make?

Night Shift Medical Coders specializing in ICD-10 coding typically earn between $40,000 and $65,000 annually, depending on experience, certification, and location. Experienced coders with certifications like CPC or CCS may earn higher salaries, especially when working in healthcare facilities or remote positions with flexible schedules.
