Network Technician
Location: Central Florida
Employment Type: Full-Time | Non-Exempt
Compensation: $25-$28/hour
Position Overview
A fast-growing fiber-based telecommunications provider is seeking a skilled Network Technician to support commercial and enterprise customers throughout Central Florida. This role is responsible for installation, maintenance, provisioning, and troubleshooting of network infrastructure and customer-facing services.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with exceptional customer service skills and is comfortable working both in the field and directly with business clients.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot commercial network and telecommunications systems.
  • Support customer premise equipment (CPE) including routers, switches, voice systems, and access devices.
  • Perform HFC proof-of-performance testing and CLI testing/repairs.
  • Install and maintain fiber optic, coaxial, and CAT5/6 cabling including splicing and termination.
  • Configure and provision VoIP, SIP, TDM, IPTV, and high-speed data services.
  • Conduct signal testing including MER, BER, optical power, and signal level analysis.
  • Set up and balance amplifiers and distribution equipment.
  • Perform preventative and demand maintenance on outside plant (OSP) and network infrastructure.
  • Act as field support ("smart hands") for Network Engineers and the Network Operations Center (NOC).
  • Assist with circuit turn-ups and collaborate with internal engineering teams and customer IT departments.
  • Manage Moves, Adds, Changes, and Deletions (MACD) for commercial services.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within electronic ticketing and network management systems.
  • Identify and correct code or safety violations (NESC, NEC, OSHA compliance).
  • Respond to outages and emergency situations, including after-hours and weather-related events.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of CATV, broadband, or telecommunications network technician experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving forward and return signal issues.
  • Experience working with HFC systems and fiber distribution networks.
  • Hands-on experience configuring CPE and network access equipment.
  • Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals; familiarity with IP/MPLS environments preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills with business and enterprise customers.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs, climb ladders/bucket trucks, and work in confined spaces.
  • Willingness to work on-call, evenings, weekends, and during emergency situations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical degree or industry coursework in telecommunications or networking.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related technical field (preferred).
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA or JNCIA.
  • Experience supporting enterprise or commercial clients.

Additional Information
This role supports essential telecommunications infrastructure. Candidates must be available to respond to service-impacting events, including severe weather and emergency outages. Flexibility for overtime and on-call rotations is required.
