Job description

Position Summary
The RF Communications Engineer I will support the design, integration, testing, and optimization of wireless communication systems for unmanned maritime and autonomous vehicle platforms. This role focuses on deploying and maintaining mesh radio networks, point-to-point wireless links, and broadband communication systems that enable command, control, telemetry, video, and data transport in demanding operational environments.
Working as part of the Communications Engineering team, the RF Communications Engineer will assist with system integration, RF testing, network optimization, spectrum management, and field deployments to ensure reliable wireless communications across autonomous platforms.
This position is suited for a motivated engineer who enjoys hands-on work, troubleshooting complex wireless systems, and supporting field operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with configuration, deployment, and optimization of mesh radio networks and wireless communication systems.
  • Support integration of RF communication equipment onto unmanned maritime platforms and supporting infrastructure.
  • Configure and troubleshoot point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and mobile mesh networking systems.
  • Perform RF testing including signal strength, throughput, latency, interference, and link quality measurements.
  • Assist with network planning, frequency coordination, and spectrum utilization.
  • Support installation and alignment of antennas, RF cabling, and communication hardware.
  • Support integration of broadband radios, LTE/5G systems, SATCOM terminals, microwave links, and Wi-Fi networks.
  • Develop and maintain communication system documentation including network diagrams, frequency plans, and equipment configurations.
  • Assist with laboratory testing, field exercises, and operational demonstrations.

Required Qualifications
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related engineering field.
  • Internship, laboratory, technical project, or professional experience involving RF communications, wireless networking, or telecommunications.
  • Basic understanding of RF propagation, antenna fundamentals, and wireless communication principles.
  • Understanding of Ethernet networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing, switching, and subnetting.
  • Familiarity with mesh networking concepts and IP-based communication systems.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform hands-on hardware integration.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with tactical mesh radio systems.
  • Familiarity with broadband wireless technologies including LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi, microwave, and point-to-point radio systems.
  • Experience configuring industrial or enterprise networking equipment.
  • Familiarity with software-defined radios (SDRs).
  • Experience with RF propagation analysis and link budget calculations.
  • Experience with communication systems integration for unmanned or military platforms
  • Experience using RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, power meters, or similar equipment.
  • Familiarity with autonomous systems, robotics, maritime systems, or defense applications.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to walk, stand, and navigate large indoor and outdoor facilities for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in designated areas or when performing specific tasks, in accordance with safety protocols and company policy.
  • May be required to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch during inspections, maintenance walk-throughs, or emergency response situations.
  • Regular exposure to facility operations including noise, dust, temperature fluctuations, and industrial equipment.
  • Occasional off-hours or weekend work required for emergency facility responses or projects as needed
  • Requires frequent use of a computer and other standard office equipment for documentation, communication, and coordination tasks.
