Role- Network Engineer, Deployment & Support

Location- Ashburn, VA

Job Description:ย 

We are looking for a Network Engineer ย to join the Edge and Network Services team. This team is responsible for deploying and supporting one of the worldโ€™s largest and complex networks. As a member of this team, you will have a unique opportunity to be involved in all aspects of networking at Customer.

ย Responsibilities:

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Deploy, configure, and support a large-scale production and corporate network and server infrastructure in data centers and Point of Presence (POP) sites across many regions.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Calculate and document equipment power requirements and work with Engineering, Facilities Operations, and/or collocation vendors to meet these requirements.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Manage project timelines to support network turn-up within expected completion intervals.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Responsible for asset management of networking gear in datacenter and POP sites

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Proactively contribute to documentation, automation and processes as they evolve

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Create network and server rack face elevations, floor plans, wiring diagrams, and detailed port maps for new deployments and documentation.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Create statements of work for vendors at the POP sites.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Create cage and rack designs and understand the overall needs of POP infrastructure.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Document and follow RMA processes and procedures for all relevant vendors.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Follow, improve, and implement data center and POP best practices

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Provide necessary escalations to higher support tier; assist Sales and Customer Support with technical operations, and work with internal departments to ensure customer satisfaction

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Work closely with Network Engineering, Logistics, and equipment vendors as new equipment and technologies are integrated into the production network.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Use internal tools and scripts to configure, monitor, and repair servers and network equipment

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Detect and diagnose various error/failure conditions across an array of server types.

ย Requirements:

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Experience in data center deployment, building large-scale infrastructure, and providing support for Linux based servers and Network devices is a plus.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Knowledge of Optical equipment, DWDM, etc.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Must have an understanding of datacenter network architecture and common issues related to datacenter networks.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Knowledgeable in Data center practices (i.e. cable routing, calculating power usage and cooling).

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Certification such as CCNA, JNCIA, RHCT or equivalent experience preferred.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Ability to capture and analyze traffic.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Solid understanding of Queue Management for tasks and incidents, vendor engagement and escalation and participation in ongoing POPs deployment projects

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations and utilize troubleshooting skills, systems and tools, and creative problem solving abilities under pressure

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Understanding of fiber-optic technology including cable types, connector types, optic types, patch panels, and optical transport technologies.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Proficiency in Linux operating system

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Experience with IPv6 and familiarity with scripting languages is strongly desired

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Excellent communication skills, should be able to work with carriers remotely

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Experience in dealing with service providers and colocation facilities around the world

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Ability to work within a global team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with limited supervision

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Strong attention to detail with excellent time management and organization skills

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Ability to lift/move 30-40 lbs
