Who we are supporting

Allied Command Transformation (ACT) is NATO's leading agent for change: driving, facilitating, and advocating the continuous improvement of Alliance capabilities to maintain and enhance the military relevance and effectiveness of the Alliance. The main objectives of ACT are: providing appropriate support to NATO missions and operations; leading NATO military transformation; and improving relationships, interaction and practical cooperation with partners, nations and international organisations. ACT therefore leads Alliance concept development, capability development, training and lessons-learned initiatives and provides unfettered military support to policy development within NATO.


The program 

Capability Development & Management Support (CDMS)

DCOS Capability Development (CAPDEV) acts as the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation's Director for guidance, direction and coordination of the activities and resources of the Capability Development Directorate.

The Requirements Division will execute all tasks and activities needed to support requirements management for NATO capabilities

The Capability Requirements (CR) Branch will develop the Capability Requirements Brief and recommended courses of action to resolve issues through the life cycle management of requirements using matrixed, cross-functional project-specific Requirements Management teams.

The Requirements Forward Branch (Mons) is responsible for conducting requirements development and management representation and engagement-related functions in Europe.

The Capability Division coordinates the development of capabilities from capability planning through acceptance and then disposal with management entities, NATO Headquarters staff and the NATO Governance Structure

The Capability Forward Branch (Mons) coordinates with ACO, NCIA, NSPA, NATO HQ, territorial Host Nations, and NATO Centres of Excellence (COEs) to support the development of capabilities.

Strategic Plans and Policy (SPP) supports Allied Command Transformation in formalizing military advice to shape future military strategy, political guidance, and other policy documents supporting NATO's strategic objectives.

Role Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide networking and IT services support to NATO exercises and associated events organized by NATO bodies.
  • Collaborate with software and system teams to design, configure, and deploy resilient on-prem networking solutions supporting innovation activities.
  • Support administration and maintenance of virtualization environments (e.g., Proxmox, VMware, LXC/VPS hosting) and integration with containerized workloads (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Implement and maintain networking security measures, including configuration of firewalls, VPNs, ACLs, and encryption technologies (e.g., TLS, PKI).
  • Conduct system administration on Linux and Windows platforms to ensure services interoperate with networking infrastructure.
  • Document networking and infrastructure solutions, including configuration baselines, administration guides, and step-by-step procedures in platforms such as Confluence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and interdisciplinary teams, including software development and operational support staff.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the COTR in support of NATO innovation requirements.
  • As directed by the COTR, travel on official business in support of ACT both within and outside NATO's boundaries for up to 30 days per year

 Essential Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience designing, configuring, and maintaining networking infrastructures (routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, ACLs) in operational environments.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, OpenShift) to support networked solutions.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and automation tools for deploying and managing network services (e.g., Ansible, Terraform , Python, Bash, Netmiko /Nornir, Mikrotik).
  • Proven experience with Linux and Windows system administration in hybrid or virtualized environments.
  • Strong experience with virtualization solutions (e.g., Proxmox, VMware, LXC/VPS hosting) supporting infrastructure and services.
  • Monitoring & troubleshooting (NMS/SNMP, NetFlow/sFlow, Wireshark/tcpdump, Prometheus/Grafana, syslog)
  • Experience applying cryptographic elements, including key management (PKI), encryption algorithms (AES), and encryption in transit (TLS /IPsec/OpenVPN).
  • Experience in documenting solutions, maintaining configuration guides, and producing administration documentation (HLD/LLD, SOPs/runbooks, in collaborative platforms (e.g., Confluence).
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional and interdisciplinary teams, including software development and operational support teams

 Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, or a related discipline.
