What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Network Operations Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Network Operations Analyst, you need a robust understanding of networking protocols, troubleshooting, and network infrastructure, typically supported by a degree in IT or a related field. Familiarity with network monitoring tools (like SolarWinds or Nagios), ticketing systems, and certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA are commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you excel in diagnosing issues and collaborating with technical teams. These skills and qualities are vital to maintaining network uptime, quickly resolving incidents, and ensuring seamless business operations.

What does a network operations analyst do?

A network operations analyst monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots computer networks to ensure optimal performance and security. They use tools like network monitoring software, analyze network traffic, and respond to outages or security incidents, often working in 24/7 environments and requiring knowledge of networking protocols and certifications such as CCNA.

What jobs pay $10,000 a month without a degree?

A Network Operations Analyst can potentially earn $10,000 or more per month with extensive experience, specialized skills, and certifications such as Cisco or CompTIA. High-paying roles often require technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and familiarity with network management tools, but they do not always require a formal degree.

How does a Network Operations Analyst typically interact with other IT teams during incident resolution?

Network Operations Analysts frequently collaborate with other IT teams, such as security, systems administration, and application support, especially when troubleshooting network incidents. During an incident, they may serve as the first responders, identifying network issues and escalating complex problems to specialized teams. Clear communication and documentation are essential, as analysts must provide detailed information and updates to facilitate a swift resolution. This collaborative environment helps ensure network stability and provides opportunities to learn from cross-functional teams.

What is a Network Operations Analyst?

A Network Operations Analyst is an IT professional responsible for monitoring, managing, and troubleshooting computer networks to ensure their optimal performance and security. They analyze network data, identify and resolve issues, and help maintain the reliability of network infrastructure. These analysts often work in network operations centers (NOCs) and may also assist in implementing upgrades and documenting network processes. Their role is crucial for minimizing downtime and supporting an organization’s daily operations.

Is NOC an entry-level job?

A Network Operations Center (NOC) analyst role can be entry-level or require some experience, depending on the organization. Entry-level positions typically require basic knowledge of networking, troubleshooting skills, and relevant certifications like CompTIA Network+; more advanced roles may need prior experience or specialized skills. The job often involves monitoring network performance, resolving issues, and maintaining network infrastructure.

What jobs in the US pay 300,000 a year?

Network Operations Analysts typically do not earn $300,000 annually; such high salaries are more common in executive, specialized medical, legal, or senior technology roles. High-paying jobs often require extensive experience, advanced certifications, or leadership positions. For most professionals, reaching a $300,000 salary involves progressing into executive or highly specialized roles over time.

Together, these technologies give ISPs the ability to manage and troubleshoot their networks in real time, and to deliver an outstanding customer experience.

AXON Networks is a trusted strategic partner for its customers, helping them evaluate their current technologies and business models, and creating and executing strategies that enable them to innovate faster, accelerate their digital transformations, and strengthen their relationships with consumers.

AXON Networks is headquartered in Irvine, CA USA with Asia HQ in Singapore and also operating in Denmark and Vietnam.

We are looking for a highly experienced and hands-on Director of Network Operations to lead our global networking environment. This role combines leadership, strategy, and deep technical expertise to ensure that our networks remain reliable, secure, and scalable.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect, operate, and optimize large-scale, low-latency IP/MPLS and cloud networks.

  • Drive automation (Python, Ansible, Terraform, APIs) to eliminate manual toil.

  • Build monitoring and observability systems (Prometheus, Grafana, NetFlow, SNMP, Splunk).

  • Lead the Network Operations function, including 24/7 NOC activities, capacity planning, and service availability.

  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of developers, engineers and operations staff.

  • Define and execute operational strategy, KPIs, and SLAs to ensure uptime and customer satisfaction.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support new product launches and network initiatives.

  • Oversee vendor relationships, contract negotiations, and service provider performance.

  • Act as the final escalation point for critical incidents and drive root cause analysis (RCA).

  • Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and audit requirements.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years in Network Operations/Engineering, with at least 5 years leading teams.

  • Expertise in routing, switching, and large-scale IP networks (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VXLAN).

  • Strong experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP).

  • Familiarity with automation and orchestration tools (Python, Ansible, Terraform).

  • Experience managing mission-critical, 24/7 global network environments.

  • Advanced certifications (CCIE, JNCIE, or equivalent) are a plus, but hands-on skills matter more.

Competencies:

  • A hands-on leader who can build teams and still jump into configs.

  • Obsessed with reliability, automation, and “fixing things the right way.”

  • Calm under pressure, sharp in a crisis, and relentless about operational excellence.

  • Excited to lead by example and mentor engineers to become world-class operators.

Due to the on-site nature of this role, we are only considering candidates who currently reside in or near Irvine, CA.

Annual salary range: $160,000 - $250,000
