Job description

Description

Own the guts of our modeling engine, everything between raw sensor data and a lightning-fast forecast API:

  • Build and optimizeย CUDA kernels,ย JAX/PyTorch ops, andย distributed training loopsย forย physics-aware transformer models
  • Stand upย reproducible, containerized pipelinesย (Ray, Kubernetes, Slurm, or similar) that scale from aย single GPUย toย multi-region GPU clustersย in the cloud
  • Automateย data ingestย andย feature engineeringย from our growing sensor network (satellite,ย buoy,ย radar, etc.)
  • Translateย novel research prototypesย intoย production-grade code

You'll work closely with Mantari'sย Head of Weatherย and AI modeling teams to operationalize next-generation forecast systems, bringing meteorological science and modern ML together atย planetary scale.

Requirements
  • Degree inย Atmospheric Science,ย Computer Science, or relatedย engineering / physical sciencesย field
  • 5+ years writing high-performance Python/C++/Rust for GPU workloads
  • Real-world experience designing and buildingย cloud-native applicationsย andย infrastructureย (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
  • Deep fluency with at least one modernย deep learning frameworkย (JAX,ย PyTorch,ย TensorFlow, etc.)
  • Proven track record shippingย distributed trainingย orย inference systemsย at scale (100+ GPUs)
  • Comfortable profilingย kernels, diagnosingย memory bottlenecks, andย reading compiler logsย when needed
  • Strong grasp ofย modern DevOps: code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and containerization
Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience withย numerical weather prediction,ย remote-sensing data, orย geospatial intelligence
  • Background inย physics-informed ML,ย simulation modeling, orย data assimilation
  • Contributions toย open-source MLย orย scientific computing frameworks
How We Work
  • Small, senior team; high autonomy, high expectations.
  • Collaborate closely with the founding team and SMEs to push the boundaries of observation-driven AI-native weather forecasting, and turn weather into an advantage, not a roadblock.
  • LA HQ required.
  • Equity upside commensurate with being one of the first core team members. Competitive salary, full benefits, and hardware budget.
