Business Development Manager, J2 Solutions, Inc. (Construction Managers - General Contracting)
Location: Venice, FL (Primary Territory: Tampa-St. Petersburg to Fort Myers/Naples)
Compensation: $90,000 - $125,000/yr + bonus + benefits depending on (commensurate with experience and performance)

About the Role
J2 Solutions is seeking a dynamic Business Development Manager to drive strategic growth across our core markets: acute healthcare renovations, broader medical facilities, general commercial & industrial/manufacturing, and faith-based/religious projects. This role combines hands-on business development and marketing execution with longer-term strategy, positioning J2 Solutions for sustained, profitable expansion in Southwest Florida and beyond
What You'll Do
  • Strategy & Planning
    • Develop and refine a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with company goals, revenue targets, and margin expectations.
    • Analyze market trends and competitor activity to identify opportunities and risks.
    • Manage budgets, monitor ROI, and recommend adjustments for maximum effectiveness.
  • Market Research & Pipeline Development
    • Maintain a clear view of clients, prospects, and competitors across key sectors.
    • Proactively source and qualify new opportunities through networking, referrals, and outreach.
    • Develop and maintain a structured opportunity pipeline (by sector, account, and stage) to support accurate forecasting and reporting.
  • Networking & Outreach
    • Represent J2 Solutions at industry events, conferences, and civic organizations.
    • Plan and execute client appreciation events and sponsorships with measurable outcomes.
    • Lead multi-channel outreach to secure discovery meetings and convert them into opportunities.
  • Marketing, Communications, & Collateral
    • Oversee J2's external marketing presence, including website, social media, and PR.
    • Develop compelling presentations, proposals, and collateral for client engagements, working with internal teams and external vendors as needed.
    • Collaborate with HR and Operations on recruitment marketing and vendor initiatives.
  • Client & Partner Relationship Management
    • Strengthen ties with healthcare systems, medical practices, church leaders, developers, and architects.
    • Participate in early-stage client meetings to assess fit and coordinate handoff to project teams
    • Act as a client advocate, ensuring feedback informs strategy and delivery.
  • Data & Reporting
    • Select and manage CRM tools to track accounts, contacts, and opportunities.
    • Establish KPIs and provide regular reports to leadership.
    • Maintain a calendar of events, campaigns, and major pursuits and ensure preparation and follow-through for each.
  • Leadership & Team Development
    • Serve as the initial owner of business development activities and, as growth demands, help define, hire, and lead additional sales/business development staff.
    • Provide coaching, structure, and accountability for best-practice business development activities across the team and broader organization.
    • Drive cross-functional collaboration with Preconstruction, Operations, and HR to ensure alignment between pursuit strategy, operational capacity, and talent needs.

Position Exclusions: This role is focused on strategy, relationship development, and opportunity generation; it does not include: contract negotiations, deep technical ownership of construction means and methods, or responsibility for final sales closings or quotas.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, or related field.
  • 5+ years of proven B2B sales or business development experience (construction, real estate, healthcare, or professional services preferred).
  • Track record of building and managing relationship-based pipelines.
  • Demonstrated success with ongoing digital media campaigns utilizing CRM software.
  • Strong leadership aptitude; prior team lead/management experience preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to explain technical and non-technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms and common productivity tools; ability to create professional marketing materials, presentations, and RFP responses (independently and by coordinating with outside vendors).
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Professional presence, emotional intelligence, and ability to build trust.
  • Experience leveraging multiple social media platforms, to drive BD initiatives, expand market reach, engagement, and brand visibility.

  • Experience in commercial construction or related sector.
  • Understanding of project flow in construction and BD's role in it.
  • Proven "hunter" mindset with strong prospecting skills.
  • Ability to orchestrate complex deals with multiple stakeholders.
