Job description

Position Overview
The Academy Charter School seeks a dedicated Upper Elementary Music Teacher for grades 3-5.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in teaching instrumental music, particularly band
instruments, and a strong foundation in general music education. This role involves implementing a curriculum that transitions students from basic music concepts to hands-on instrumental practice, fostering both individual skills and ensemble collaboration.
Responsibilities & Duties
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive music curriculum for grades 3-5, aligning with New York State Arts Standards.
  • Grade 3: Focus on general music education, emphasizing vocal development, music notation,
  • and introductory recorder instruction.
  • Grades 4-5: Lead instrumental programs introducing wind, brass, and percussion instruments, building foundational playing techniques and music reading skills.
  • Utilize technology and multimedia tools to enhance music instruction.
  • Plan and organize student performances, such as recitals and school events, to provide practical experience and build stage confidence.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Music Education or a related field; Master's Degree preferred.
  • New York State Initial or Professional Certification in Music Education.
  • Experience teaching music at the elementary level, with a focus on instrumental instruction.
  • Proficiency in playing and teaching band instruments.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
