Start Date  August 2026 Position Summary Assists teachers, students, and parents with interpreting and translating between the native language and English. Serves as a liaison between the native language community and the school in helping each to understand the needs and the services of the school. Performs EL Interpreter Bilingual Aide tasks as assigned by the teacher and approved by the Assistant Director for Student Services, English Learners and District Equity. Qualifications
  • Ability to work with linguistically and culturally diverse students.
  • Fluency in a language other than English and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and fluently in English and in the selected native language, Ukrainian, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Should be detailed, thorough, industrious, have knowledge of school procedures, and show evidence of successful experience in working with students.
  • Exhibit personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
  • High School Graduate, or equivalent to.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities  (Not all inclusive)
  • Interprets verbal and translates written communication(s) for the purpose of assisting students, teachers, and parents in communicating effectively.
  • Assists teachers in organizing and implementing instruction for students with the purpose of improving students' academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of devising special strategies for reinforcing materials of skills based on the understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
  • Instructs students individually or in groups, with lesson activities and assignments (e.g. helping teachers with daily classroom activities, modifying activities according to student needs and proficiency levels, reading to students/listening to students read, tutorial assistance, etc.) for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Assists in maintaining various records (e.g. forms, student profile cards, attendance records, etc,) for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and in compliance with EL program requirements.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in various activities for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Encourages students to exhibit behaviors and study habits that will lead to academic success.
  • Consults with teachers, counselors, nurses, attendance office, and/or administrators as may be required (e.g. selecting materials to be used, any concerns related to student, special information, special learning needs, cultural appreciation, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information regarding student activities and progress.
  • Serves as a liaison between parents, students, and the school, explaining school policies, procedures, school support systems and services, programs, community resources, and the goals of the instructional program.
  • Assists the school staff with an understanding of the culture and traditions of the native language, particularly when differences may enhance or diminish student learning.
  • Serves as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes and effective work ethic by displaying professional and ethical behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel.
  • Attends meetings and staff development programs when requested.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy.
  • Performs any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the teacher, Principal, Building Coordinator, or District Coordinator, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation. 
Knowledge and Skills
  • Bilingual in English, and selected native language Ukrainian, with proficiency in reading, writing, interpreting, and translation,
  • Ability to write professional communications.
  • Ability to respond to questions from individuals and groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community members.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely by demonstrating effective communication skills when interacting with other individuals and groups.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, operate duplicating machines and computer equipment; reach with hands and arms; and will frequently repeat actions with the same hand, arm, or finger motion such as when typing.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.  In addition, the ability to withstand long-term use of video display terminals (VDT) is required.
  • The employee may occasionally lift up to 30 pounds such as reference books.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • The pace of work tasks would be considered as fast.
  • Work is usually conducted at one job site, however, on occasion, this employee will be required to attend meetings, conferences, or workshops and events at other sites as assigned.
