Organization Background:
Briarpatch Youth Services has an exciting job opportunity. The agency is a dynamic non-profit community organization that has served Dane County since 1971. Briarpatch provides a broad array of services to more than 2,000 youth annually who have runaway, are experiencing homelessness, are justice involved, or facing other challenges.
Bilingual Part-Time Interpreter/Translator
Days/Hours:
10 hour a week (with the possibility of additional hours)
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 4:00-7:00pm (with an additional hour of flexibility)
Occasional weekend support as needed

Description:
Briarpatch Youth Services is seeking a qualified Spanish bilingual interpreter/translator to provide both in-person and virtual assistance to Briarpatch staff and program participants. Interpretation will include meetings between staff members and youth/families. Translation services will include agency documents and literature.
Duties:
Provide accurate, confidential, culturally competent, and impartial interpretation between Spanish speakers (who have limited-English-proficiency) and English speakers.
  • Interpret as needed/required in various settings.
  • Respond to Spanish language phone calls on the regular business line (non-crisis calls)
  • Adhere to professional ethics, including client confidentiality and impartiality.
  • Provide translation for selected agency brochures and literature.
  • Maintain an accessible calendar for staff interpretation requests.
  • Accurately complete daily logs, timesheets, and activity reports as needed.
  • The potential exists that this role may case manage a small caseload over time with proper training.
Education/Experience Qualifications:
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (test will be given)
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional onsite interpreting experience preferred.
  • Experience working with families and youth representing diverse communities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Punctuality, reliability, and professionalism are essential.
  • Flexibility, as meeting times can change based on family needs.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Dane County.
  • Openness to training and growth.
  • Reliable transportation.
