What is an MSP Account Executive?

An MSP Account Executive is a sales professional who manages client accounts for a Managed Service Provider (MSP), which delivers IT services and support to businesses. They are responsible for building and maintaining relationships with clients, understanding their technology needs, and ensuring the MSP's services align with those needs. MSP Account Executives often handle new business development, renewals, and upselling additional services. They act as the primary point of contact between the client and the MSP, working to ensure customer satisfaction and account growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an MSP Account Executive, and why are they important?

To thrive as an MSP Account Executive, you need a solid understanding of IT solutions, managed services, and sales strategies, typically supported by experience in technology sales or account management. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, quoting tools, and MSP-specific software such as ConnectWise or Autotask is usually required. Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills help you stand out in managing client accounts and closing deals. These skills are crucial for building trust with clients, driving revenue growth, and maintaining long-term business partnerships in a competitive tech services environment.

How does an MSP Account Executive typically collaborate with technical teams to deliver client solutions?

MSP Account Executives work closely with technical teams, such as solutions architects and support engineers, to understand client needs and translate them into tailored managed service offerings. They often act as the bridge between clients and internal resources, coordinating project scopes, timelines, and deliverables to ensure client satisfaction. Regular meetings and ongoing communication help ensure that the solutions proposed align with both client expectations and the MSP’s capabilities. This collaborative approach is key to building trust, closing deals, and maintaining long-term client relationships in a fast-paced environment.

MSP Account Executive Mid-Market

Thriveon

Eden Prairie, MN • On-site

Job description

Thriveon is Minnesota's leading IT provider, locally owned and operated since 2002. We deliver a clearly differentiated managed IT service that combines Fractional CIO leadership, cybersecurity, and proactive IT management into one cohesive solution. Recognized on the Inc. 5000 and Channel Futures MSP 501, and repeatedly named one of the 100 Best Companies to Work in Minnesota based on employee feedback, Thriveon is poised for significant growth.
The Role
Thriveon is seeking an MSP Account Executive Mid-Market to drive net-new growth across our Minnesota market. This is a full-cycle, net-new hunting role: you own the sales process from prospecting through close, and - most importantly - you self-generate your own first-time appointments through outbound prospecting. You will lead consultative conversations with CEOs and executive leadership and partner with our Fractional CIOs to design solutions that tie technology to business outcomes. This role is ideal for a proven self-starter who fills their own calendar and thrives on ownership.
Responsibilities
• Self-generate a minimum of 2 first-time appointments per week through your own outbound prospecting - cold calls, in-person drop-ins, email, and LinkedIn. Referrals and networking are additive, not a substitute for self-sourced outbound.
• Own the full sales cycle: prospecting, discovery, solution alignment, proposal, and close. By month 6, that pipeline converts to roughly one new client per month.
• Lead consultative discovery with CEOs, Partners, and executive leadership.
• Uncover client pain points related to IT strategy, cybersecurity, AI, and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with Fractional CIOs and technical leaders to design tailored solutions.
• Maintain accurate pipeline activity, forecasting, and reporting in HubSpot.
• Meet and exceed activity, conversion, and revenue goals.
Requirements
• A demonstrated history of personally self-sourcing new-business meetings by phone at volume - not relying on SDRs, marketing, or an existing book of business.
• Proven experience in full-cycle B2B sales, ideally within IT services, MSP, or consulting.
• This is a hunting role for net-new logos. Not Account-management.
• Comfort engaging C-level executives and business owners in value-based discovery.
• Organized, self-motivated, and accountable to weekly activity and pipeline metrics.
• Experience using CRM tools (HubSpot preferred) to manage pipeline and forecast.
• Authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
Compensation & Benefits
• Base Salary: $80,000-$90,000. On-Target Earnings (OTE): $180,000-$220,000, uncapped.
• Medical and dental insurance (75% of family premium covered).
• 401(k) with 4% company match.
• Three weeks PTO plus paid holidays.
Culture & Growth
• Mission-driven organization focused on empowering business success through information and technology.
• Results-oriented, close-knit team with weekly coaching and clear career pathing.
• Growth-focused leadership with a clear long-term vision, and recognition as a top workplace.
• Our promise to our sales team: make more money than you have anywhere before, learn more than you ever have, and love coming to work.
