What does MRP stand for in salary?

In a job context, MRP typically stands for 'Market Rate Price' or 'Maximum Retail Price,' but in salary discussions, it is less common. If referring to salary, it may be a typo or misinterpretation; more often, salary-related terms include base salary, gross pay, or hourly rate. Clarifying the specific industry or role can help determine the exact meaning.

How does an MRP (Material Requirements Planning) specialist typically collaborate with other departments within a manufacturing organization?

An MRP specialist regularly works with procurement, production, and inventory management teams to ensure that materials are available for manufacturing without excess stock. They coordinate closely with procurement to schedule timely purchases, communicate with production planners to align material availability with production schedules, and work with inventory staff to optimize stock levels. This cross-functional collaboration is key to minimizing delays, reducing costs, and maintaining efficient operations across the organization.

What is an MRP job?

An MRP job typically refers to a role involving Material Requirements Planning, which is a production planning, scheduling, and inventory control system used in manufacturing. The job may require skills in supply chain management, ERP software, and data analysis to ensure materials are available for production without excess inventory.

How much does MRP pay?

MRP, as a manufacturing or retail company, typically offers wages that vary based on the role, experience, and location. Entry-level positions may start around minimum wage, while skilled roles or managerial positions can pay higher, often in line with industry standards. Exact salaries can be found on company job postings or salary comparison websites.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an MRP (Materials Requirements Planning) Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an MRP Specialist, you need strong analytical skills, knowledge of supply chain management, and often a degree in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with ERP/MRP software systems like SAP or Oracle, and sometimes APICS certification, is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help professionals excel in managing inventory and coordinating with multiple departments. These skills are crucial to ensure efficient production schedules, minimize costs, and maintain optimal inventory levels.

What is MRP in job skills?

MRP in job skills typically refers to Material Requirements Planning, a manufacturing process that involves scheduling and managing inventory to meet production needs. For roles related to manufacturing, supply chain, or production management, understanding MRP systems and software is essential for efficient planning and resource allocation.

What is an MRP (Material Requirements Planner) and what do they do?

An MRP, or Material Requirements Planner, is a professional responsible for ensuring that manufacturing operations have the necessary materials and components available at the right time and in the right quantities. They use specialized software and data analysis to forecast demand, manage inventory levels, and schedule deliveries from suppliers. MRPs play a key role in optimizing production efficiency, minimizing costs, and preventing production delays due to material shortages. Their work often involves coordinating with various departments, including procurement, production, and logistics.

Job description

Overview
Working across the globe, V2X builds smart solutions designed to integrate physical and digital infrastructure from base to battlefield. We bring 120 years of successful mission support to improve security, streamline logistics, and enhance readiness. Aligned around a shared purpose, our $3.9B company and 16,000 people work alongside our clients, here and abroad, to tackle their most complex challenges with integrity, respect, responsibility, and professionalism.
The MRP Planner owns the delivery commitment and planning execution for assigned programs. The role reviews daily MRP output and the 0-90 day planning horizon, acts on exception messages, confirms material support for planned orders, and resolves material shortages so each program stays on track to its contractual delivery date. The MRP Planner owns the long-range planned-order horizon and hands short-term release decisions to Production Scheduling, which sequences and releases work to the floor. Program-office communication runs through program coordination, and systemic cross-program issues escalate to the MDO Planning Lead. The role sits within MDO Integrated Planning and coordinates closely with Production Scheduling, Material Control, Supply Chain, program coordination, and the production floor.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and protect delivery commitments for assigned programs. Own the program-level plan, review the 0-90 day horizon, identify material risks, capacity conflicts, and demand changes, and keep assigned programs on track to contractual delivery.
  • Action MRP exception messages. Review net-change and regenerative MRP output for assigned programs, act on near-term exceptions (reschedule in/out, cancel, expedite), and escalate systemic cross-program patterns to the MDO Planning Lead.
  • Manage the planned-order horizon and purchase requisitions. Review planned orders eligible for release in the long-range horizon and confirm material support before handing short-term release decisions to Production Scheduling. Release or reject MRP-generated purchase requisitions after validating quantity, date, and source.
  • Resolve material shortages. Work material shortages and supplier delays directly with Supply Chain to keep released orders covered, initiating purchase requisitions or expedite requests when there is no stock. Escalate to program coordination when a shortage cannot be resolved with Supply Chain, and assess delivery impact once the supplier issue is resolved.
  • Maintain demand-signal and data accuracy. Validate that SAP demand signals reflect program-office intent, flag implausible routings and recurring rework BOMs to engineering, and keep planned orders and planning parameters accurate so the plan stays stable.
  • Participate in planning cadence and escalate obstacles. Take part in the Tier 1B planner sync and the Tier 2 weekly planning review with program priority context prepared in advance, and escalate through program coordination when program-office pressure needs a manager-level response.

Qualifications
Required Skills:
  • Three or more years of MRP, material planning, or production planning experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience working MRP exception messages, managing planned orders, and resolving material shortages against demand. Defense, aerospace, or other regulated high-mix/low-volume environment experience is a plus.

Education / Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in supply chain, operations, business, industrial/manufacturing, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • APICS/ASCM CPIM certification preferred, not required.

Skills & Technology Used:
  • Proficiency with SAP S/4HANA PP/MRP, including daily work in MD06 and MD04. Strong Excel skills for analysis and tracking.
  • Ability to read and interpret bills of material and routings, with a working understanding of MRP logic (net-change and regenerative runs). Cross-functional coordination with scheduling, supply chain, material control, and the floor. Discipline around data accuracy and demand-signal stability.

At V2X, we are deeply committed to both equal employment opportunity, including protection for Veterans and individuals with disabilities, and fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace. We ensure all individuals are treated with fairness, respect, and dignity, recognizing the strength that comes from a workforce rich in diverse experiences, perspectives, and skills. This commitment, aligned with our core Vision and Values of Integrity, Respect, and Responsibility, allows us to leverage differences, encourage innovation, and expand our success in the global marketplace, ultimately enabling us to best serve our clients.
