Our client is seeking a Microsoft 365 Engineer to work within their facilities located in Houston, TX, for an initial 6-month assignment.
Job Summary
The Microsoft 365 Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and optimization of the organization's Microsoft 365 ecosystem. This role ensures secure, reliable, and efficient delivery of collaboration, identity, and productivity services across the enterprise, with a strong focus on governance, security, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Administration & Engineering
- Administer and support Microsoft 365 services, including:
- Exchange Online
- Microsoft Teams (collaboration, meetings, telephony)
- SharePoint Online & OneDrive
- Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
- Manage tenant configuration, policies, and service health monitoring
- Design and maintain hybrid environments (if applicable)
Identity & Access Management
- Implement and manage identity solutions using Entra ID:
- SSO, MFA, Conditional Access policies
- Identity lifecycle management and provisioning
- Integrate M365 with third-party identity providers (e.g., Okta)
Security & Compliance
? Configure and manage M365 security capabilities:
o Microsoft Defender (Office 365, Endpoint, Identity)
o Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Insider Risk, eDiscovery
? Enforce governance and compliance policies aligned with regulatory requirements
? Monitor threats and respond to security incidents in coordination with SOC teams
Collaboration & Productivity Enablement
- Optimize Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive for collaboration use cases
- Support enterprise rollout of new collaboration and productivity capabilities, including Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365, with responsibility for readiness, configuration, governance, and user enablement
- Drive adoption through best practices, documentation, and training
Endpoint & Device Integration
- Integrate M365 with Microsoft Intune and endpoint management solutions
- Configure device compliance, app protection policies, and secure access controls
Operations & Support
- Serve as Tier 3 escalation for M365-related incidents and issues
- Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes
- Automate operational tasks using PowerShell, Graph API, and scripting
Architecture & Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to M365 roadmap and architecture decisions
- Evaluate new Microsoft capabilities and third-party integrations
- Continuously improve performance, cost optimization, and user experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft certifications such as:
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert
- Security, Compliance, and Identity certifications
- Experience with:
- Microsoft Defender suite
- Intune / Endpoint Manager
- Cross-platform integrations (Okta, Cisco, etc.)
- Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture principles
- Experience with Copilot enablement, adoption planning, prompt guidance, or related Microsoft AI and Copilot certifications
