POSITION TITLE: Engineer III Software (Microsoft 365) (P3)

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Microsoft 365 Engineer III will be hands-on in operating, securing, and advancing Crown Castle’s Microsoft 365 platform. You will design and deliver reliable, low-friction collaboration and messaging services across the M365 suite—SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, and Entra ID. Your contributions will introduce standardization, modernization, and automation, and you will build and support the M365 services consumed by teammates across the enterprise.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Engineer, administer, and optimize the Microsoft 365 platform across all core workloads—Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, and Entra ID—ensuring reliable and performant service delivery
  • Serve as the senior subject-matter expert for SharePoint Online, designing site and information architecture, permissions models, and governance for enterprise content and collaboration
  • Administer and optimize Exchange Online and hybrid Exchange environments, including mail flow, transport rules, connectors, and coexistence with on-premises Exchange
  • Lead messaging migrations and hybrid configurations between on-premises Exchange and Exchange Online, ensuring secure and seamless mailbox coexistence
  • Develop automation using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, and the Power Platform to standardize provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management across M365 services
  • Implement and maintain security and compliance controls—data loss prevention, retention, sensitivity labeling, and conditional access—in alignment with current standards
  • Assess production readiness of new M365 features and services, defining operational characteristics, maintainability, and adoption guidance
  • Establish best practices and build tooling to drive consistent configuration, monitoring, and the adoption of M365 capabilities by teams across the organization
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, architects, and business partners to ensure current and planned M365 solutions meet the growth and transformation needs of our rapidly scaling organization

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED
Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline
  • Microsoft 365 certifications preferred (e.g., Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert, Messaging Administrator Associate, Teams Administrator Associate)

Experience Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience administering and engineering Microsoft 365 in large enterprise environments, with broad competency across all core workloads
  • Deep, demonstrable expertise in SharePoint Online—site collection and information architecture, permissions and governance, content migration, and end-user enablement
  • Extensive proficiency administering Exchange Online, including mail flow, transport rules, connectors, mobile device access, mail enabled security groups, and message hygiene
  • Hands-on experience with on-premises Exchange Server and Exchange hybrid deployments, including mailbox migrations and coexistence
  • 3+ years of experience with PowerShell scripting and automation for M365 administration (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Graph)
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams administration, including governance, policies, and telephony/voice where applicable
  • Working knowledge of Entra ID (Azure AD), including identity, conditional access, and directory synchronization (Entra Connect / AAD Connect)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Purview security and compliance tooling—DLP, retention, and sensitivity labels
  • High degree of collaboration and influence; able to dissect complicated technical problems and apply sound judgment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to document, standardize, and continuously improve operational practices

    To optimize collaboration, relationship building, and key stakeholder engagement, this roles aligns to a 4:1 hybrid model which is in office Monday-Thursday with the option for remote work on Fridays.

    Compensation
    The salary range offered for this position is $113100 - $155500 annually. A candidate's offer is determined by various factors including but not limited to, depth of experience, role-related knowledge and skills, relevant education or training, internal alignment, and work location. Depending on the position offered, the compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of a discretionary annual cash bonus or commissions, and equity incentives.
