The Pacific Northwest's premier steel fabricator, Thompson Metal Fab, Inc., is in immediate need of a Paint Department Utility Worker. Serving the Civil, Hydro, Oil & Gas, and custom fabrication industries. We are an AISC, API, ASME, and WABO certified facility. With over 85 years in the industry, we have a reputation for producing some of the highest quality fabricated products on the West Coast.

This position is available for Day shift 6:30AM-3:00PM Mon-Fri. Competitive wages with opportunity for advancement.

Position Description
Position Summary: The Utility Worker is an entry-level position within the Paint Department at Thompson Metal Fab. This role supports Journeyman-level Painters and Blasters by performing general labor and preparation tasks that keep production moving safely and efficiently. It's a great opportunity for individuals who want to learn the industrial painting and blasting trades and work their way up through hands-on experience in a large-scale fabrication environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist Painters and Blasters with daily operations to maintain workflow and production schedules.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties including sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning, and organizing work areas.
  • Support surface preparation activities such as masking, thinner wiping, striping, and other prep work as assigned.
  • Help maintain paint and blast equipment, hoses, and tools in clean, safe working condition.
  • Transport materials, supplies, and equipment within the paint and blast areas.
  • Properly handle and dispose of industrial materials such as solvents and masking materials according to TMF procedures.
  • Follow all company safety policies, wear required PPE and actively participate in maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn blasting and/or painting processes under supervision.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
Qualifications:
  • No prior painting or blasting experience required; prior industrial, construction, or manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Ability to work safely and follow detailed instructions in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and develop new skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in environments with dust, paint fumes, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to wear required PPE including respirators, safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing.
