Job description

FACILITIES MANAGER

Gwynedd-Mercy Academy Elementary School – Ambler, PA

Gwynedd-Mercy Academy is seeking a Facilities Manager to direct their maintenance operations and to carry out the following responsibilities:

  • Supervise Facilities Technician.
  • Oversee all facility services for a school campus with classrooms, convent residences, grounds, and athletic facilities including a gymnasium and playing fields.
  • Lead the operation of building and grounds maintenance, campus safety and security, and custodial services. In addition, effectively manage and/or execute maintenance and custodial activities, event set-ups, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair, small-scale renovations and oversight of regulatory compliance.
  • In conjunction with the Business Office, oversee an annual operating budget of approximately $500K; conduct an annual facilities assessment study, develop project timetables, and place bidding for small- to medium-sized projects, award contracts, obtain all necessary approvals and manage the projects to a successful conclusion while ensuring that they are completed in a style that is in synergy to the School’s overall design.
  • Coordinate with the Business Office to design a five-year capital project budget.
  • Lead and direct safety initiatives and programs; work with all employees and faculty to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students, families, alumni, and visitors.
  • May attend Board of Trustees’ Facilities Committee Meetings.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on equipment and machinery.
  • Manage and communicate with contracted facility services such as cleaning, grounds, and repair.

Necessary qualifications include:

  • A degree in facilities management or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A thorough understanding of and significant experience with all aspects of facilities management, maintenance and custodial, as well as experience with managing custodial employees, and overseeing compliance with federal and state labor laws and school policies and procedures.
  • Eight (8) years’ experience in facilities plant and/or facilities maintenance operations.
  • Experience working on a school campus.
  • Five (5) years’ experience supervising skilled tradespersons and design professionals.
  • Knowledge of computerized building control systems(BCS).
  • Ability to use A frame ladders, extension ladder.
  • Must be able to use computer include Microsoft Suite.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal electrical, mechanical, building standards, codes, designs and regulations pertinent to the school environment is preferred.
  • General knowledge of computer automated maintenance management applications, word processing, and spreadsheets is preferred.

Physical Demands:

May include: 

  • Operating light equipment or tools.
  • Work on ladders, frequent walking, bending and stooping, squatting, reaching above and at shoulder length.
  • Kneeling, balancing above standing, sitting, lifting of objects weighing up to 50lbs or more.
  • Occasional pushing/pulling, twisting at waist.
  • Good balance is required.
  • Subject to extremes of temperature while working inside and outside the school.

  • Noise level may require the use of hearing protection equipment.

Ideal candidate should live within 20 to 30 minutes of Gwynedd Mercy Academy.

This position requires candidate to be available some evenings, weekends, and for special events.
