Job description

Purpose
The School Nurse Substitute provides health services to students and staff in the absence of the assigned campus nurse. The substitute ensures that medical needs are met in a safe, timely, and confidential manner, following district policies, state laws, and established protocols.
General Responsibilities
• Uphold Vanguard Academy's core values: Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful.
• Provide immediate health services and maintain the safety and well-being of students and staff.
• Follow established district and campus protocols for medical care, documentation, and communication.
• Maintain confidentiality
Health Services
• Administer first aid and emergency care for injuries and acute illnesses.
• Dispense medications as prescribed, following district procedures for documentation and authorization.
• Monitor students with chronic health conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma, seizures) according to individualized healthcare plans.
• Assess student health concerns brought to the nurse's office and determine appropriate action (return to class, notify administrator, or seek further medical attention).
Qualifications:
Must hold current CNA/LVN/RN state of Texas licenses
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
Ability to use software to develop databases and do word processing
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Experience in health-related position; experience working with school-age children preferred
