ABOUT THE CAT RESALE STORES

In order to set ourselves apart in the thrift store marketplace, our visual merchandising must strive for excellence and innovation. Organization and neatness are our number one priority because we offer such a wide range of products. The saying "less is more" rings true with our goal of high-end thrift store merchandising. With this method, diverse products like apparel, nooks, lamps, furniture etc. which all reflect some theme, are displayed together in a room setting. Helping our customers visualize how that piece of clothing or merchandise will look in their lives is a major contributing factor in affecting a sale. Try to adhere to the "like with like" rule of thumb.


SUMMARY OF ROLE

The Cat Resale Stores, owned by the Santa Fe Animal Shelter, is looking for a Part-Time sales associate who's ready to to be part of one of the fastest growing industries. Sales and productivity targets for purpose-driven work with a passionate, supportive team. This is your chance to do the work that matters-without drama.


PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS    

  • Work in a friendly, passionate environment with an experienced, compassionate team
  • Have knowledge of valuable item brands
  • Communicate professionally and clearly with donors, volunteers, and customers
  • Be crossed trained and be responsible of the stores merchandise practices
  • Experienced in the retail field and a wide variety of upscale merchandise preferred
  • A collaborative spirit and a love for "old" stuff
  • Availability for 2-3 days per week, with flexibility
  • Able to work weekends and some holidays
  • Able to work as a team with other team members

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS  

Education, Skills and Work Experience 

  • Knowledge of trends, styles - both retail and resale - as well as the unique look and feel of our community's culture
  • Extensive knowledge of brands in regard to quality, designer, price, value and demand
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers/staff/patrons
  • Excellent computer proficiency (Google Drive, MS Office - Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary communication
  • Previous retail and customer service experience required
  • Excels at being a positive inspiration to staff and customers
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Professional demeanor and friendly nature.
  • Professional, diligent and responsible attitude.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Creative and out of box thinking.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays.
  • High school diploma or GED required 

Physical Demands 

The physical demands noted are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job: 

  • Consistently required to transition from seated to standing, moving and kneeling or crouching. 
  • Constantly required to speak and hear. 
  • Requires use of hands for grasping, reaching and other operative tasks.
  • Required to lift and/or carry an animate or stationary object of up to 50 pounds.
  • The work environment exposes the employee to a noise level that is moderate to loud. The employee must be able to handle exposure to working conditions such as poor ventilation, heat, cold, sudden temperature changes, wet quarters, noise, medical and surgical odors as well as animal odors and dander. 
  • An understanding that SFAS is a managed admissions facility and the euthanasia and cremation of animals are regular functions of the Shelter. 
  • Potential for exposure to zoonotic diseases, dangerous and fractious animals, hazardous chemicals, anesthetics, and sharp objects. 
  • The employee should be comfortable interacting with animals of various size, breed, and temperament.
  • The employee must be able to speak clearly and communicate to customers, volunteers, and co-workers. 
  • A valid New Mexico Driver's license is required.
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation to and from work and to second store location when transferred for staffing issues.
