The Merchandise Operations Manager manages the Merchandising support functions related to assigned chain and/or multiple divisions. This role manages recruitment, training and development of support staff including Supervisors and other Merch support staff. Additionally, they will continually reviews and improves our buying process support functions with the goal of driving profit. The Merchandise Operational manager ensures proper coverage and alignment of support staff with Merchandising's business needs.

  • Develop effective relationships with GMMs, MMs and buyers to understand, plan and execute support needs
  • Proactively anticipate and plan for future workload and staffing needs by leveraging available business tools and relationships
  • Build relationships and identify opportunities with various business functions
    (Transportation, Vendor Compliance, Planning & Allocation, etc.) to better manage and improve the accurate receipt and flow of goods
  • Independently resolve complex operational and HR issues
  • Consistently assess and create staffing assignments that align individual business need and existing staff
  • Develop performance objectives that align and support merchandising sales and profit goals
  • Develop division specific initiatives to improve operational processes
  • Manage and reduce attrition by identifying and providing growth opportunities for staff
  • Work with Supervisors and Talent Acquisition to identify key skills for each merchandise support function role
  • Manage the hiring, training and on-boarding of new associates
  • Conduct performance evaluations and oversee merit recommendations within assigned chain or division(s); provides career counseling, 1:1 coaching and development for direct reports and/or indirect reports. Support Supervisors with personnel issues including progressive disciplinary action and terminations
  • Develop on going technical and non-technical training for both supervisors and
    staff
  • Oversee payroll budgets and wage and hour policies
  • Acts as liaison with sister companies to leverage and develop Merchandising support best practices
  • Market travel and attend Merchant strategy meetings, when necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Who We're Looking for: You.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Supervisory experience; non-exempt supervisory experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Merchandise Operations preferred
  • A history of building effective relationships in a collaborative matrixed environment
  • Proven ability of supporting and influence client group
  • Strong delegation, organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • A history of successful talent assessment and associate development
  • Flexibility, adaptability and comfort working in the gray in a fast-paced environment
  • Supervisory experience; non-exempt supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated strong strategic and paradoxical thinking
  • Knowledge of Merchandise Operations preferred
  • History of follow-through and effective prioritization
  • Strong Excel and Word skills
  • Ability to quickly adapt and use new computer systems
  • Preferred knowledge of off-price retail

Actual starting pay is determined by a number of factors, including relevant skills, qualifications, and experience.
