Location Flexibility: To best support our guests and store teams, this role requires flexibility to work at locations throughout the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill (RDU) area.

As a Co-Store Director, you are a strategic partner to the Store Director and a key leader in the overall performance of the store. You help guide the full store team, support daily operations, and ensure a consistent, high-quality guest and team member experience.


  • Model and promote our values of passion, excellence, hospitality, and teamwork in every interaction.
  • Serve as a visible, accessible leader on the sales floor, supporting team members and engaging with guests.
  • Recruit, hire, and develop team members, building a strong pipeline of future leaders.
  • Oversee sales departments (Produce & Floral, Meat & Seafood, Bakery, Deli & CMS, and Center Store) to ensure merchandising, signage, and assortment reflect local guest needs and our brand standards.
  • Manage key financial areas, including sales, gross margin, labor planning, inventory control, and shrink reduction.
  • Partner with department managers to ensure effective ordering, scheduling, and workload planning.
  • Maintain full compliance with food safety, sanitation, risk management, and all regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a brand ambassador, representing The Fresh Market with hospitality and professionalism in the store and local community.
  • Build strong relationships with guests, responding to questions, resolving concerns, and modeling guest recovery.
  • Engage with local organizations, vendors, and partners to strengthen the store’s presence in the community.

This position requires the willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, days, evenings, and holidays. 


At a minimum, what you’ll need: 

  • 5+ years of progressive management experience in supermarkets, retail, restaurants, hospitality, or general business
  • Demonstrated success overseeing multiple departments or store-wide operations
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to achieve sales, margin, labor, and operational goals
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Basic proficiency with POS systems, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Food Safety Certification or ability to obtain after hire
  • Must be 21 years of age or older

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, retail management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience leading in a grocery or high-volume specialty retail environment
  • Proven success in developing strong teams and delivering exceptional guest experiences
  • Bilingual skills a plus

Physical and Work Conditions 

  • Repetitive hand/arm movements, bending, reaching, and the ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds independently.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • Use of tools and equipment such as knives, ladders, stepstools, box cutters, and pallet jacks.
  • Standing or walking for long periods (up to 4 hours or as required by law).
  • Required use of approved hats, hair nets, beard guards, and personal protective equipment.
