About the Durham Bulls:

The Durham Bulls are one of Minor League Baseball’s most iconic franchises, known for exceptional fan experiences and a vibrant ballpark atmosphere. The Merchandise trainee plays a key role in bringing that experience to life by helping fans take home a piece of the Bulls tradition.

Overview:

The Merchandise Intern supports the retail operations of the Durham Bulls by assisting with inventory management, product merchandising, customer service, and game-day store operations. The intern will learn effective sales techniques that ensure fans receive high-quality shopping experience that reflect the team’s brand and values throughout the stadium and e-commerce platforms.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

 Retail Operations:

  • Assist with the daily operations, including merchandising, stocking, inventory and management of seasonal staff.
  • Process sales transactions accurately using point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by greeting guests, answering questions, and providing product recommendations.

Merchandising & Inventory:

  • Maintain organized and visually appealing product displays according to merchandising standards. 
  • Stock shelves, restock items as needed during events, and ensure all merchandise is properly tagged and priced. 
  • Participate in receiving shipments, counting inventory, and updating inventory records.

Game-Day Support:

  • Support retail needs during home games, special events, and promotional activities on both game and non-game days throughout the year.
  • Assist with crowd flow, line management, and maintaining a clean and safe retail environment.

Brand Representation:

  • Uphold the Durham Bulls’ brand by maintaining a professional appearance and positive attitude.
  • Communicate product and brand knowledge to enhance our fan experience.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment 
  • Strong customer-service mindset; organized, motivated, detail-oriented, and able to multitask 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and all home events 
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment; adaptable to feedback, changing priorities, and tight deadlines 
  • Previous retail or customer service experience preferred, especially in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Capability Capacity to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds boxes.
  • Perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. 
  • Close vision and ability to differentiate colors.

Work Conditions: 

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays 
  • Ability to remain focused and productive in noisy, crowded environments with multiple distractions 
  • May require working outdoors in varying and unpredictable weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind 

Pre-Employment Information:

  • Pay Rate: $13/hour 
  • Anticipated Duration: This position is expected to continue through September 2027. Candidates who are available through May 2027 may also be considered
  • A pre-employment drug screening is required.
